How to do an oil lamp?

I have a vigil lamp and what I've been using is just beeswax candles, but it didn't work out to good since I can't stand the smell of beeswax for some reason and I just figured, I should just use an oil lamp. The problem is that I don't know how to do it. How I would set it up, I should say. Any tips?

Or buy an old believer "float", a mophead & end up with something like this:

The easiest way is to twist safety wire around an electrical eye-lug terminal (use uninsulated). Do this by placing the terminal in the middle of a twisted pair of wire. Cut off the wire to a length from the terminal of a bit more than the radius of the votive glass . Thread a wick through the terminal as if it were wire, looping it through the eye to make a bit of a strain relief so the wick will not fall out. Place in oil filled votive. Light.

Thanks for the info.

So, I buy some Old Believer floats and some wicks and I just put the wick in the float and put it in oil and light it right?
