  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How to ask my pastor?

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this type of quetion, but I belong to an Anabaptist (Brethren in Christ) church, so figured this was the best fit.

What is the best way to ask my pastor how my monetary contributions are being spent? Or is this something that would be inappropriate to ask? I'm asking because I want to significantly increase my contributions to my church, and, like all major purchases/investments in my life, I like to have a good understanding of where the money is going.

So, if it's not an inappropriate question to ask a pastor, what is the best way to approach it? I plan on emailing him the question, and just want to know how to word it in a way that doesn't come off as me just being nosy.

Thanks for your help!

No, brother, it's not inappropriate, it's called accountability. Most churches I've ever belonged to AT LEAST quarterly, gave a financial statement describing where God's people money was spent.

It's not a matter of being nosey or not letting the right hand know what the left hand is doing, it is just plain ole horse sense, keeping them accountable.

Who is responsible to disburse the funds that are contributed? Hopefully it's not the pastor. Does your church have a Finance Committee? If so, they would be responsible to see that members of the congregation get a regular financial report showing how all the donations are being disbursed. The Finance Committee should make up a budget at the beginning of each new year and present it to the congregation to look at and then vote on. You have a full right to know where your money goes and there's nothing wrong with discussing this with your pastor, but ultimately it should not be the pastor who decides these issues.

just start spending time with them... if the bond is there it is there, you won't need to ask them a question like that it will all happen naturally.

As a child I had a third set of grandparents, our next door neighbors and it stayed like that into my adulthood until they died, i never asked them, it was just like that.
