There are two important things a believer must do if the Holy Spirit is to teach him Christ. One he must separate soul and spirit Hebrews 4:12. Second, he must learn to rightly divide the word of truth second Timothy 2:15. These two things are necessary if the Holy Spirit is to have freedom to reveal Christ that is in you.

The Holy Spirit does not deal with our religious ideas or doctrines. He wants to deal with your Spirit where Christ is joined to us and He wants to deal with the scriptures that apply only to the Christ in us. The Holy Spirit has come to the believer strictly to reveal Christ John 16:13-14, for Christ alone is Truth. It is knowing the truth, Christ, that sets you free. There are several points that will show you that the Holy Spirit is working in you.

You will sense that you no longer live Galatians 2:20. Rightly divided Scriptures-- scriptures that relate to Christ work for you and in you Romans 6:2-8--will bring you to the new realization that the old you is dead at least in God's eyes and you have a new life.

You will begin to see Jesus coming through you. Your language will change from "I do this or that" to"He does this and that."Your attitude toward others will change. You will see Christ in them if they are born again regardless of their action toward you or others.

You will begin to see Christ working in all things good or bad. You will see through every obstacle every setback every pain and every circumstance and situation, to Christ. Christ has to do with all things Colossians 1:16-17 and they are things working for you for your good Romans 8:28. Learn to be a see-through-er.

You will become aware that you are created to bring glory to God and this is the greatest thrill you can have.

You will discover that the greatest power a believer has is when the Holy Spirit is teaching him Christ. Acts 1:8 says that, "After the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power."This power of knowing Christ as your life comes after-- a period of time after--the Holy Spirit comes into your life.

You will have some emotional feelings depending on your creation. Every believer is created differently so his reaction to the Holy Spirit may be different from other believers. Ephesians 5:18-21 says "Being filled with the Spirit you will speak to yourself in Psalms hymns singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord."

You will have a zeal for the Word to open up to you. You will find that the rightly divided scriptures that speak to you personally directly from Christ will be the greatest thrill of Christian living. Study John chapters 14, 15 and 16.

The Holy Spirit will be a great comfort in fact Jesus calls him the comforter. The Christ life is a new and inexperienced way of living. At first the believers will find it difficult to live all of the things he has learned even though there may be very little he knows at the time. The Holy Spirit will be a comforter and carry the believer through the newness of the life in Christ.

I think that you may be putting a bit too much of your personal spin on this. Martin Luther sums up the Biblical teachings on the Holy Spirit in his explanation of the 3rd article of the Apostles Creed in his small Catechism:

The Third Article.
Of Sanctification.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; one holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

What does this mean?

--Answer.
I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Ghost has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith; even as He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith; in which Christian Church He forgives daily and richly all sins to me and all believers, and at the last day will raise up me and all the dead, and will give to me and to all believers in Christ everlasting life. This is most certainly true.

I am intrigued by the notion that these two things are something that the believer is able to do apart from the work of the Spirit in the illumination of the Scriptures and writing them upon the heart of the believer.

I do understand what you are saying, The scripture I'll refer to is in Romans chapter 6. Where the apostle Paul says to Yield your members. Yielding is a mind thing and the process that the believer must go through in order for the Holy Spirit to teach him. Jesus tells us what the Holy Spirit would do when He comes In John chapters 14, 15 and 16.

The main ministry of the Holy Spirit is to reveal Christ in the believer and what happened the moment we believed--we were birthed. The meaning in my statement of us doing something was not necessarily of a self-effort or a doing on are own to be who we are, but yielding to the Holy Spirit ,waiting on God, searching the Scriptures to see if these things be so, trusting the father.

Ok, so let's look at Romans 6, you're quoting v13 right? The other half of the statement is v12, we're not to sin, to give ourselves over to it's power, but to yield ourselves to God, v12 starts with a therefore, so the reason we can resist sin and yield ourselves to God lies beforehand, right? We see that in Baptism and what it symbolises, and does in the life of the believer; union with Christ, as v5 says "We have been united with him in a death like his, we shall surely be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing," this is something which happens before Paul tells us that we are to yield our members to God, otherwise he wouldn't have placed a "therefore" there.

I want to have a quick look at another perspective on this change from Paul, Gal 4:4-7; "God sends his Son... to redeem... to grant adoption as sons." so God sends Christ to grant the same status and relation with God, God sends Christ to unify with Himself. "because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God." So God makes us his sons (or unites us with Christ) and sends His Spirit into us that we may long and groan as a son separated from a Father might. The Spirit makes the reality a reality, before we start yielding our members, the Spirit starts the reality being a reality.

I think when we start to yield our members, that's when we begin to groan because we start to see how futile this world really is, and the scriptures say we were subjected to futility. Of course even those without the first fruits also groan within, according to scripture.

Amen brother, it's a deep heartfelt thing to want to know God. It's a God thing to cry out Abba father like Doulos said and grown for him. Hundred years from now I don't know if it will matter, but right now it does.

The more I cried out to know the Father the more I began to see Christ as my life. The Holy Spirit reveals Christ in you, to you, as you're only life. Christ is the revealer of the Father. To know him Who Is Father--we must see Christ as our life.

Amen again. I agree.
