• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ok I've been havin some decisions I'm tryin to make lately but they all involve prayer and God's opinion. HOWEVER I can't always be convinced that the "voice" is of God... how the hey am I to do so!? I have tried to read books on this, but the main answer is "experience." Well what do I do in the meantime before I get that experience? Can someone give me some advice pray for me to have it all clear and make sense? please!? Thank you anyone who does

even in your uncertainty, you're experiencing. and sometimes when God seems to be silent, He is actually working in your heart. I think you have to listen to God as well as your heart, and put the two together, also, allow yourself time to receive God's answer, don't rush through it.
*praying for you*

I struggle with this to and all christains do. there are 3 voices you can here the voice of god the voice of the flesh or yourself and the voice of satan. Trouble is they all sound the same and its only by faith that we learn to distinguish between them.

The first questions I always try and ask

Would you be telling yourself to do what you are hearing?
Would satin be telling you

That can sometimes be an easy process of elimination. Do what you feel is right in your heart its not easy sometimes and your not going to get it right all the time nobody does but by faith we learn to grow and use this expericnce. God needs to grow in you be hungry but have patiance nd let god develop you at his own pace

I recently struggled with this same issue! I'm still not always 100% sure.....but God always manages to find some way to tell me if I'm heading down the wrong path. I guess all you can do is pray, and ask Him to continually show you His truth in every situation.

I wouldn't rely too much on a "voice" to help me make decisions.

If God is asking you to do something, He will let you know. It feels different when God is calling than when our own desires are calling. God's "voice" isn't a long drawn-out litany. In my experience, God uses few words. It's more like, I'll be praying about something, and He'll say "do this." Or I'll be praying and God will send me a feeling of apprehension. That's a no.

You really have to learn to hear God's true voice the same way you learned everything else: Live and learn.

See Lambslove that's what I'm talkin about... everyone says you have to "live and learn" or "you know by experience." What I am interested in however is how do you check your experience? Like how do you "learn" (for the live and learn)? Like... what are ways of telling which voice is which? or which feelings are of God/me? are there methods of getting to a place where you can communicate better with him (i.e. meditation -> and if so what kind of meditation)? You know stuff like that. Stuff to help me learn Thank you for any answer you may have God bless you!

That's what I was thinking, psycmajor.

sbbqb7n16, read and study the Bible. Memorize scripture. Then whenever you are faced with a decision, ask yourself if it goes against God's word. That is a very good foundation for all decision making. The scriptures were written that we might know God's will.

You are seeking God's will thru prayer, and this is very wise. Sometimes, God will give you a very clear answer and you will just "know that you know" what the will Of God is.

But other times, God does not seem to tell us what His will is, pertaining to a specific situation. There comes a time when you must make a decision and simply trust God with it. Seek the opinions of other Christians, like you have done here, and weigh their opinion with your own thoughts. Keep praying about it, and keep reading the scriptures.

I have made many wrong decisions in my life, but the wonder and glory of God is that He will even use our wrong decisions to lead us where He wants us to go. In all things, trust God. Trust Him with your life and your future. Trust Him even with situations you are not sure about. Make the best decisions you can, and trust that God is guiding and directing you.

I had to memorize scripture in Sunday School when I was a little kid. I remember it was sooo hard for me. The teacher would give us a scripture, and we had to have it memorized by the next Sunday. But it is well worth the effort. It will stay with you your entire life.

I don't know of a good method for memorizing scripture. You might start by writing down the scriptures that you already know, like John 3:16. You may be surprised to find that you already have a lot of scripture memorized, like the Lord's Prayer and the Ten Commandments, etc. Type them up, from memory, in your Journal here at CF. Then, whenever you find a scripture that you really like, try to memorize it. Repeat it to yourself over and over for a few days. Write it down a few times. Don't try to memorize more than a few verses at a time, one verse at a time is a good way to start. Although, I did hear about a guy that has memorized entire books of the Bible!
