How small should I let my SINK bar soap get before throwing it away?

    (NOT shower soap).
My bathroom sink soap is down to approx. 2" x 1" with curved sides and corners, but washing my hands is a very slow process. I use it for hand washing only. I would guess that most people would not tolerate it, but like the saying goes, "waste not, want not." I once broke open a glass jar of car wax to wipe out the inside of the jar and my grandfather was proud of me. I'm thinking about caving in and throwing the soap away, as wasteful as it may be. My time isn't worth much, but I do have other things to do with that extra minute or so, and I don't think God cares one way or the other. I just don't want to regret such a monumental decision with potentially life-changing consequences.

I almost never throw away a bar of soap. When it gets very thin I I lather it up real good and adhere it to the next bar.

    That's a valuable tip.

Make a small cloth bag and put all the small bits of soap inside, then use that to lather your hands.

I can't imagine, unless it's a strainer cloth like my mother used to make jelly, with the four corners tied together. I guess the cloth would pay for itself after 50 years of soap savings.

You can easily make your own liquid soap:

The great thing about soap, is that it doesn't stay dirty.

Until it's only a bit of foam or a soap bubble, seems a majority view, and surely pasting it onto the new bar is a valid step. :D

What a practical question! I don't have anything to add except I'm glad to see you all have the same set of good ideas I was going to offer! I didn't stop to watch the video on liquid soap but thought that a mustard, ketchup, salad dressing or dish detergent bottle (the squeeze types) would work well for soaking the last washings out of those soap slivers, with or without grating them small.

You grate 1 bar of soap with a cheese grater. Add it to one gallon of very hot water. Stir until the gratings disappear. Let stand for 10 hours or so. Mix to even consistency. Add water to thin down to desired consistency. Done. The bottles that you mentioned are a good idea.

Throw it away immediately, and get non scented liquid soap. Bar soaps are gross :p

Why non-scented? I like when my hands smell clean.

if your hand-washing is slow because the effectiveness of the soap you use diminishes as you use it up, my advice would be to switch to a different brand of soap, after a bit of research on brand effectiveness :)

do you know what scripture 'waste not want not' is based on? i can't think of one...

did it occur to you that glass shards in car wax might adversely affect the car's appearance? would the risk be worth the benefit of that last little bit of wax?

your time is really all you have in this life; value it

why would you think there is something so trivial about you that it would be insignificant to God?

I wait till there is barely enough soap left to even wash up with before throwing away a bar.
