  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"After tsunami disaster, Sri Lankan officials investigate reports of child rapes"

"But experts say it's not uncommon in times of conflict and trauma. "When there is displacement and chaos, the possibility of this type of behavior is higher," Harendra de Silva, head of the National Child Protection Authority, said Saturday."

Did this sort of behavior happen after 9/11 or the Florida hurricane's? Just wondering. Seems to me that the Asian culture this disaster occurred in is partly to blame. It's well-known that the sex trade in this part of the world is some of the worst. Very young girls are commonly sold into prostitution. Business men around the world take "sex trips" to some of these countries where they can have their pick of young girls (or boys) without too much fear of being caught or prosecuted if they are. Many government officials and local law "enforement" are on the take. Sad, sick and wrong.:(

Obviously, Kim, you are right. These cultures are sick to start out with! Such disgusting behavior is unconscionable. Heaven help us all!

Which cultures are you talking about? Hopefully you mean the sex trade culture, which is of course, horribly sick, and not the cultures of the countries hit.

The cultures that allow sex trade to be so commom and open are sick. Many cultures are; some are worse than others.

Before we get all bent out of shape about the evils of Asiatic culture, spend 5 minutes here:

[size=-1]http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/ceos/prostitution.html

(The comments by a U. S. School teacher about how he HAS to have sex with 14 year olds because the UN isn't doing enough to help them is my personal favorite)

It is a terrible thing. But you yourself point out that the clientele comes from all over the world, including America and the UK - wouldn't that suggest to you that the problem is not "the Asian culture" but one which is global?

It may not have happened after hurricanes in Florida, but are you sure no Floridians have ever done it when they think they won't be punished? I agree the fact that it's allowed is horrible, but I really don't think that can be said to be the cause of pedophilia.
Although it's true that men from all over the world go to these asian countries for sex services, it is the countries themselves that allow it. As I said, the government and local law enforement not only look the other way, they encourage it due to payoffs. I suspect that the governments of these countries are loathe to upset the "tourist trade" which would reduce tourist dollars and tax revenue. I watched a congressional hearing on the sex trade and it's truly frustrating getting some of these countries to enforce their own laws. Often, some of the sickest perpetrators are never caught and if they are, rarely prosecuted. It just shows how little international laws value the lives of children.

It's nauseating

Whenever mention of child abuse arises, i just think of my children...i look at them with eyes of love, others may look at them with eyes of sexual excitement..makes me sick and angry, but most of all, it makes me want to cry.

God Bless.

I cannot begin to express the horror I have seen coming out of this area. Rape is one I never thought about. I did hear that they were afraid of the rebels taking in the children in that area to help continue fighting. Now that there are some troops on the ground, maybe things will get some what better, but I'm afraid that everyone is over whelmed by the situation. I understand that many people including children are going into shock, realizing what problems they have. We all need to say a prayer for these people, especially the children. I went into our church the other day just to get down on my knees and pray for all of them, both dead and alive. I PRAY FOR THEM ALL.

In Christ Name, GlynnW

Yes! Prayer may not be the only answer, but it's the best answer!:crossrc:

I would suggest the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel:

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in our day of battle; protect us against the deceit and wickedness of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray.

And you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God banish into hell Satan and all of the evil spirits who roam through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.
