  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In terms of creation - Genesis makes it clear that the days are human days, not "God's days" -- use of numbers, and use of morning and evening are the defining constructs.
Evening and morning are used figuratively in the bible, so are days combined with numbers. In fact Jesus'
parable of the labourers in the vineyard uses the word day and morning and supplies time checks every few hours through the day, 'about the third hour'... 'about the sixth hour'... yet Jesus certainly still wasn't defining it as a literal day.

Hello All,

God does not state when He created the Heavens and the Earth.

He does give us the commonly called 'days of creation', and I believe that they are 1000 years each.

and God never says that the universe or Earth is 6000 years old. True we can count the biblical account to find that Adam and Eve lived approx. 6000 years ago.

Verse 2 of Genesis 1 is MUCH different in the Hebrew.

The earth BECAME a indistinguishable ruin. This is the foundation of the world (Kata-bole in Greek) and is Satan's overthrow...God ended that age, and started this one.

then took 6000 years to create, or better said, recreate the existence. And He made mankind flesh on the 6th day (6000+ years after the kata-bole). And then He rested for a 1000 years. And then He created the very specific individual Adam, not mankind generalized as in chapter 1, but a specific man....for a reason, to be a farmer...to till the soil, prepare the field for harvest....

IMO, the kata-bole (Satan's overthrow) happened app. 14,000 years ago.
Mankind made flesh app. 8000 years ago.
Adam and Eve app. 6000 years ago....AFTER the 7th day of rest.

The age of the universe and Earth is billions of years old, as science claims. The Word says nothing different when properly divided.

Hi Zeke welcome to OT.

I am not sure how to get from katabole meaning the foundation of the world, to katabole meaning Satan's overthrow. Katabole was a word used by Greeks and Greek speaking Jews to mean foundation, or planting seed. It did not mean overthrow, though I have come across writers who try to argue that from its etymology. But the word simply wasn't used that way.

The age of the universe and Earth is billions of years old, as science claims. The Word says nothing different when properly divided.

However, the same scientific techniques which give an old age to the universe and the earth also tell us that humanity has existed for close to 200 thousand years, not just 6,000 years. (And by "humanity" I mean our species Homo sapiens, not earlier human-type species such as H. neanderthalensis or H. erectus.)

Why accept some of the scientific dating and not all of it? Or conversely, reject some of it but not all of it?

People tend to use only the scientific data that supports their personal opinions. Lol...
