Pretty much the title question.

I would, however, kindly ask for only those who have some definitive number to post. Even a guest-imitate is fine, just something that is concrete.

Mind you, I am not saying non-definitive ideas aren't plausible, I was just only looking for those responses that did have definitive ones.

("Unknown", "can't say", "we can't know for sure", "a day to God could be..." are all examples of types of "unknown" responses.)

lol even I can say that these aren't questions looking to genuinely explore Christianity. You just seem to be trying to bait Christians into giving you illogical responses, so that you can call them out on their faulty logic/reasoning.

As someone who's been in quite a few discussions here, you should understand that many Christians don't adhere to normal human logic all the time. That's just the way it is and you won't change how they think.

What is your goal with this question?

Trying to understand things would be exploring, by my definition. I wouldn't have thought that a Christian would have assessed as question about their religious beliefs as "not really questions".

Well, if no Christian has a definitive answer, then I would assume no Christians would be posting.

It appears not getting "baited" is easier than you thought :)

What is there to understand with this question?

Either a Christian believes that science is accurate and that the earth is ~14 billion years old, or they believe in YEC or some variation and thinks the universe/Earth has only been around for thousands of years.

If they believe it's 14 billion, you'd say "Good, that makes sense." If they believe it's 14,000, you'd say "Now that doesn't make sense at all..." and you'd get into the young earth argument.

I just don't really understand the point to the question.

Why the person believes that number.

Seriously, why is it that people seem to not be able to just answer a question?

I have answered many number of questions asked and have not felt the need to answer a question with another question or any variation on it...

Because this is a forum that is dedicated to the Exploration of Christianity. So the answers given will be directed at what it takes to establish and maintain a relationship with Christ. The questions you ask require speculation based on your personal understandings as to the nature of religion and how the universe works. In a word your questions/challenges are often found to be invalid to the subject being discussed.

That's the same as asking "Why do you believe in God?" It'll always boil down to personal experience and subjective belief. I guess that's fine if you want to explore that, but you'll probably get bored quickly with asking questions as plain as these.

Just so that someone answers lol, to the best of our knowledge the universe is ~14 billion years old.

Then they could simply not reply.

Some people might have a problem answering because they don't know how old the universe is. That isn't exactly common knowledge.

That's fine.

I'd assume that those who don't claim to know, exactly, wouldn't respond.

Not exactly.

I would assume that they would then cite what led them (Bible passage? I don't really know and that's why I asked) to believe that number. I'm guessing the answer didn't come to them in a vision...

The Earth is 85 million years, 243 days, 8 hours, 24 minutes and 18 seconds old. Precisely. And counting. Corrected for changes in the Earth's orbit and rate of rotation about its axis and about the sun.

There, I answered your question. Are you satisfied?

Unfortunately, no.

I asked how old is the universe, not the earth.

Also, the age of the earth (time of existence) has nothing to do with it orbiting or changes in its orbit (what its doing).

That would be like saying, "I have adjusted how long you have been in this room, because you changed from doing the tango to jumping jacks."

As far as I know, the universe is 13.7 billions years old, the earth is about 4 billion years old and life on earth is about 3 billion years old. I could be off by half a billion though. ;)

Thanks for your response.

I sense you don't have a sense of humour.

I sense you don't have a sense of humour.

Was the humor in the exact specific numbers you arrived at or you not using the correct noun, the funny part?

I have a very funny sense of humor, and actually a very humorous line in mind, but you won't probably find it funny.
