  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How much do you use the computer each day?

I'm starting to think that spending the entire day online is unheathy. The computer is just like your television set, it probably emits harmful UV rays that will damage your eyes.

I am pleased to say I have not been online all day, I was offline doing other things.

You don't know how good it felt to have some time away from my computer! To be honest the screen was starting to hurt my eyes, and when I started taking breaks from it my eyes began to feel better.

And not only that, you are avoiding all of the jerks, idiots, and just plain rude people that get on here every day (If I said that what other people said didn't affect my emotions that would be a lie.)

A long time ago there was a guy that slapped me upside the head, I've always thought he was a rude jerk, but I didn't tell him that. I guess I never forgot he did that to me -- maybe I should just forgive him.

Don't they have a conscience? After all, people have no right to mistreat and bully others.

I, Jacqueline, forgive you for being a total jerk and for exhibiting rude behavior. There, I said it. You were clearly in the wrong but I won't hold you responsible for it.

Technology can be addicting and there are studies that show it drains the eyes (we have a tendency not to blink) and can cause carpal tunnel syndrome. We need to definitely not sit to games or the PC, phone etc for extended periods.

I primarily use a desktop and spend about an hr in the morning and about the same time in the evening doing business and pleasure. If I am techo bound at work (some days yes others not) I try to skip anything I don't have to do at home.

I strongly suggest some UV-shielding computer glasses, even if you don't need corrective lenses. The effect is subtle, but very tangible, and adds up.

I also recommend breaking up the day if possible. I'm on the computer a LOT, and when I feel it's too much I go outside and garden or work around the house or take a walk. These breaks are solid gold for the eyes, the back and the spirit. And letting go of offenses is just as good for the soul.

Only CRT monitors (The boxy tube monitors that have a glass screen) emit UV and the amount is so miniscule that only people who have photo sensitivities are effected by it. LCD screens are fine.

That being said, sitting at one for hours on end will make your eyes tired.

I use a computer for more hours a day than I care to admit, but it comes with the job.

There's no question that I feel a difference from wearing my computer glasses. It may be because they are yellow and filter down the blue light. It may be because I installed fluorescent lighting recently. Not sure, but the difference is there.

I have to admit that I am probably on the computer far more than I should be, but it's because I need the computer to help me get and keep jobs and to help me to figure out how to start and run different business ideas that I have. Many of my business ideas rely upon the computer and the Internet.

I'd love to find people that could help me with it all, but that's easier said than done as there are a lot of really dishonest people out there and I'm very cautious about who I trust and don't trust.

I love my two PCs!

Watching old movies & online sports events (many pay-per-view sporting events cost $70 in the USA but are for FREE on European tv - I subscribe to THREE online channels where I watch these events cost free!), listening to Rock & Roll oldies, and discussing issues of the day. And I get a joy out of whipping right wing pundits during political discussions. :)

I know I spend way more time on this machine than I should, but it is hard because I build and maintain websites. I also build Facebook Pages for a select few clients who don't have the time and for those willing to pay, I will even maintain those as well.

I do get out for all my committee meetings and youth group programs as well as board meetings. So it is not like I am always stuck behind this keyboard.

I spend entirely too much time on here. It is hard when I am at home and all I have is the computer and TV. When I have other things to do church, camp I am off I also go to bed at a reasonable hour usually no later than 11:15PM.

I have several computers and what consumes time is following discussions, and the slow internet connection. Sometime in the future when I'm more knowledgeable I look forward to putting a bit more time into being on CF and unorthodoxchristian.freeforums.net, but other than those two forums I try to cut down on the amount of time I spend, and on some forums I don't write anything for now but one of them keeps consuming my time. None of my computers are high-end, I would never buy a brand new computer. Maintenance also takes a bit of time sometimes.
I will be putting a lot more time into using the main Bible Study software that I have. I will also be taking Greek classes at uni and thereby be able to utilize many of the books better.
I don't have a TV, I've never had one in my own home:

When I've bought a car with 20 MPH top-speed I will go to church a lot more than I do now. I don't camp regularly. I wish I could with my best friend but it's difficult to stay away for long periods and neither of us has a lot of money that would be required for some of the interesting trips such as to the mountains. Even going closer to 100 miles away usually costs too much:

My eyes are OK. Maybe I should start cleaning my spectacles more often again. One of the monitors is pretty small (in one of the two laptops). I haven't checked whether I can plug in my external monitor which I specifically bought for the laptops, to that laptop.
