Anyway, I am not a JW but my husband's brother and his wife are JW's and I have visited the local JW Hall in my town several times..and never have been asked or even noticed anyone removing their shoes. LOL! But that is a funny joke..

Sorry about that Missy. :) That was just something I heard once and I wasn't sure whether or not it was true, but I thought it was kinda funny. :)

It seems lihe hector might be confusing the Bible and Catechism.

maybe he has a combo version that is messing him up.

Do Catholics use The Larger and Shorter Catechisms?  And if so, is the first question of the Larger, What is the chief and highest end of man?  A. Man's chief and highest end is to glorify God and to fully enjoy Him forever.?

I am just curious as to if we are using the same catechisms and if so why some of us always find points to battle over.

Catholics use one single catechism, the Universal Catechism of the Catholic Church, last revised in 1997.

Before this, the catechism in use was the Catcheism of the Council of Trent, issued in the 16th century.

There are other, smaller catechisms, but they are based on these two big ones.

I think I’ll add my two cents on this issue. What more I have a unique perspective on the issue since both sides tend to think I fall in with the other respectively. I was once told by a friend – you look and act catholic buy you sound Baptist.

In all of the essential doctrines Catholics and Protestants agree. Those being the Christological, Trinitarian, and those that relate to the nature of man. While P’s and C’s may disagree on where fullness of temporal authority lies, they both agree that the FINAL authority is God’s. While we may dispute the roles of faith and works in the redemptive process, there is NO dispute that Salvations is by grace alone through Jesus Christ alone.

The disagreements in doctrines between the P and C sects is not in the WHAT doctrines but instead in the HOW doctrines. In those things, we can work towards understanding and agreement – but our differences do not in any way preclude the entry into heaven of either side.

Anyhow that’s my buck fifty on the issue from some one who is arguably neither here nor there on the issue. :)

There was an interfaith service - Catholic and Protestant- and when it came time for Communion / Eucharist - Jesus showed up. The priest and the minister ran up to Him to determine once and for all who was "right", wine or grape juice, open communion or closed communion...etc.....they both started asking Jesus who was right, and Jesus said, " you have put these barriers up between yourselves, that was never My intention"
