  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How many times will God forgive you?

Ive heard not to commit the same sin over and over willingly and then ask for forgivness. Iam just curious if a person does this will GOD still forgive us?
Okay...

If God says that when your sins are forgiven that they are as far as the East is from the West, never to be remembered again.... then why are you questioning that God will remember?

There is only one sin that will not be forgiven.

But now...;)

If one truly loves the Lord, then it is just like when love someone else... you do everything to please them.... you talk to please them, you go where they want to go, you set aside a time to be with them.

If you truly love the Lord, how could you just keep sinning the same sin?

Wouldn't you want to please God if you claimed to love Him?

I and all people fight with the sin that dwells within our flesh.

Galatians 5:17 (LIV) For we naturally love to do evil things that the Holy Spirit tells us not to do; and the good things we want to do when the Holy Spirit has His way with us are just the opposite of our natural desires. These two forces within us are constantly fighting each other to win control over us, and our wishes are never free from their pressures.

Gal 5:17 (AV) For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Just like any addiction, sin can be difficult to overcome, and your faith, as displayed in your testimony of life, and the blood of the lamb is how it will be overcome. However, a big price is paid for sin in a person's life, just as it is with, maybe smoking - as an example. You may have to learn the hard way that smoking leads to cancer. It is the same way with sin. It will take something away from you every time, and although you may not perceive it, over the years you will come to know just exactly how much it has taken away from your testimony and life - especially unrepentant sin, as we are called to repent.

Ask for God to live His life through you, and submit yourself to Him in all things. While we are weak, He is strong and able. Each person has mountains in their lives to overcome, and God's grace abounds far much greater than sin. Read the Bible and renew your mind everyday, and pray. There is sin that does not lead to death, God understands, and does not throw children out for messing up their diapers or learning to grow up. He is a much greater, more loving Father than any man, yet sin is SO much more deadly than diaper training, and we need to grow up in Him and be encouraged to do so.

Keep asking for forgiveness and keep trying to overcome sinful addictions and mountains that are in life. God is faithful to forgive those that are honestly trying, but there comes a time when God will not be used or mocked by insincereity or slothfulness. A person reaps what they sow in life, and those that sow to the wind get back the results as desvastation (the whirlwind).

I should add that for every temptaion to sin, there is a way out, and that God provides us with answers to the flesh, as He was tempted as all men and feels for our infirmities.

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

God will forgive a willing heart, as many times as we fall (1 John 1:9). Though if you sin over and over and make no effort to change, but just ask for forgiveness everytime with a half-heart, I think you need to go back and give yourself a heart MRI (not a physical one).

Hebrews 10:26 - 39

vs. 26 - "If we (Christians) DELIBERATELY keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of JUDGMENT and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God"

Notice from verse 19 to whom he is speaking - to Christians (he calls them brothers)

True repentance means a 180 degree turn away from sin - "if anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW creation; the old has gone, the new has come !" 2 Cor 5:17. This is the evidence of one truly being born again - he changes, he brings forth the fruit of the Spirit increasingly in his life (Gal 5:22-24)

2 Cor 7:10 - "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret...."

We must ask ourselves when we sin why we ask God for forgiveness in the first place - is it because we are grieved that God grieves over our sin and that sin caused the sacrifice of Christ to be necessary and that He was forsaken of the Father because of our sin OR are we just wanting to ease our conscience. Is it the fear of punishment/hell OR love for God that prompts us to ask for forgiveness ?? If our motives for asking God for forgiveness are genuine it will go a long way in us being overcomers of the world, our flesh and ultimately, over the enemy of our souls, Satan himself.

A few things for us all to ponder......

If you earnestly seek forgiveness, then you will be forgiven. Keep in mind that earnest forgiveness requires the desire to leave that sin behind. It's impossible to earnestly seek forgiveness with the intent to keep on sinning. God knows our hearts, and if you go into a sin thinking to 'trick' God...well, that will only end badly for you. If your intent is truly to be closer to God, then you will have no desire to continue in the sin. Of course, we all slip or stumble...but for those who return to God with pure intentions, our sins are covered.

Love, Heather
