how many think that being a christian listening

I have really given music some thought of late. I actually let my wife talk me into getting rid of most of my cds. But I see no reason why country music would be bad. I believe alot of the musicians to be Christian and alot of the subject matter in their songs show this to be true. However, some of the new country is getting closer to the mainstream of our society and talking about things that are not wholesome. Just my 2 cents.

I have no problem with ANY genre of music. There are certain songs in any genre that are offensive or not appropriate. There are even some Christian songs that are pretty offensive when you get right down to it. Discern the tune, do not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I don't think it's wrong. I think we need to be careful what we put into us as some of the lyrics are bad, we should turn those off, but most of the lyrics aren't bad so it's fine and that applies to any genre

I don't believe it's wrong either. I go by song and artist... if I don't care for the artist, I'm going to go off the song. basically, control what you listen to (secular or not) there's crap hidden under every shoe, that doesn't make the shoe itself crap. There's something wrong in every genre, doesn't make any of the genres themselves bad.

Here is an example of what I meant by the above. Frank Zappa was an incredible musician, band leader, composer... However, his lyrics often reached the point of disgust and total inappropriateness. I own very little of his music, but have heard most of it over the years. Acknowledging that his lyrics are often WAY over the llimit, I can still put on "Shut Up and Play Your Guitar" and be competely blown away. It has no lyrics and is an amazing piece of guitar work.

Can I still appreciate the skill of an amazing musician and even enjoy his/her music knowing full well that they are not a Christian and that even some of their music steps over the line? I think so.
