This is actually quite an interesting question.

Is it MORE miserable to have never had a date but want one very badly and be denied... or to have been in a relationship, have it gone sour, and THEN have nobody ever want you again?

I would say it's kind of like the Allegory of the Cave. Once you've been with someone, you can't really go back to not knowing what it's like, and being only as happy or as unhappy as you were before. Not only is it miserable being alone, but it's miserable being deprived of the companionship and etc that you once had. So it's more like, once you have and can't have again, it's worse because there's an EXTRA thing... loneliness AND deprivation of what you once had... instead of just the one.

But then again, I'm probably over-thinking this. It's what I get from having philosophers for parents :p

I've been in a good and loving relationship so I do know what its like. Yes there are times when I want nothing more than to have that again. but there are also times when I'm just content to be single and I enjoy the freedom that comes with that.

Its actually quite similar to how I felt before I started dating. I'd go through times when I wanted nothing more than to have a boyfriend, and times when I was content to be single. The only difference now is that I have the memories of my past relationship. sometimes thats bad but sometimes its good because it makes me think I have something good to look forward to when I find that again.

I hope that makes sense. It feels like I'm rambling.

4 including the man I'm marrying. The first three weren't nearly as long/serious though.

EDIT:

Oops, actually 5. Though we weren't exactly ever official.

The first two were not christian and both in my teen years then I vowed to only date christians after that.

How many Boyfriends or Girlfriends have you had ?

One. And we were never technically "official."

Speaking for myself.... It was really difficult at first to go back to being single after having had someone (even if it was very short lived). I thought often that it would have been better never to have had a boyfriend at all because I was much more aware of my loneliness after we split than I ever had been before.

But as time has passed, I'm finding my pre-relationship contentment again. As the memories fade a bit, it's not so agonizing to be home alone on a Saturday night.

I suppose I've just gotten used to it again.

I've never had an official relationship either. Sometimes I think I really want one, just to have someone to hold close.. other times I think I'm pretty damn lucky not having anyone around to tie me down haha.

Everyone that's had relationships, where they with other christians or what?

All of mine were
1. Christian and practiced
2. Christian but seeking their beliefs more
3. Nominal Christians
4. Didn't know.

Only one was with a blatant, out right disbeliever.

Do you think it had any effect on what type of person she was? Do you think she seemed any different to the 'Christian' girls you dated? As in morally, her actions, etc?

I know all girls are different, but I think what I'm trying to ask is if you thought their beliefs had any affect on shaping them as an individual or not.

Nope.

They all differed with issues of morality in their own way, but their morality was all the same. We're ranging from Bible believing believer, to nominal believer, to non-believer.

In my younger days, no. Since I've been an adult (23 and up), they've all been Christians, but some didn't walk the walk.
