Hello I am new here and I would like to know, how many people here like science fiction? I love science fiction.

I love some of the older stuff. I have found much of the more recent stuff very to not measure up.

I love some of the older stuff. I have found much of the more recent stuff very to not measure up.

I feel exactly the same way. I enjoyed all of the older books of Robert Heinlein, the grand master of science fiction. And I've read Dune several times, though I could hardly stomach the sequels. But I have yet to come across a new author of the genre who is worthy of reading.

I'm new too. I love sci-fi and fantasy. There is nothing like curling up with a good sci-fi novel on a rainy day. I've been known to finish a whole paperback book in a single day. I like pretty much anything though I am very partial to Star Trek and Star Wars. On the fantasy side I am a fan of Wheel of Time and also Lord of the Rings.

a good Christian/Messianic Science Fiction Writer - Isaac Israel - has written a series called The Late-Earth Chronicles.... this is NOT Left Behind folks - this is REAL Science Fiction - yet clearly non-Secular....

and very much in the genre` of the Golden Age writers... in fact if you like Golden Age you will Really Enjoy the fourth book in the series - Thy Kingdom Come - you can identify the writing styles of many of the honorable Golden Age writers - he says it is a deliberate tribute, and he does it rather well I think...

I've read fiction, mostly when I was younger. I have come back to a good deal of stuff and read again, the best of both worlds (real and not) is a good idea

I am going to have to look this up. It does sound interesting.

To the original poster: I've been reading SF/Fantasy since I was about 13. Started with Edgar Rice Burroughs and Lin Carter, L Sprague DeCamp, early Heinlein, Robert Howard. And like some of you, back in those days, with 200 page novels, I was easily reading one a day sometimes. Now, with 500+ page books, plus a family, a husband, and a full time job, I'm lucky I get around to reading anything in under a week.

For me... its definately the movies:
Star Wars, Stargate, the Fountain etc.
I can't get enough of the stuff. Anything with an imaginative and somewhat realistically unrealistic plot is good for me.
