I have been confused about Christianity for maybe 1 or 2 months now, haven't read the Bible (I just now realized, if i am confused, why not listen to God and read HIS Word?) So i am starting reading it again.

I am starting in Saint John to read about "Who really IS Jesus?"

I want to know how many chapters i should read, i don't really care if it would take a year to read, as i want to be able to understand it, and i will take notes and post them here so i can get clarification on anything i am confused about.

Please post why i should read the amount you chose, so i can get multiple opinions.
Thank you.

If you want to understand and get a lot out of it, then I would take my time. Read a chapter a day, and then go over it and study it and take notes like you said you were going to. Also pray before and while your reading and ask God to help you understand it.

I usually read until something "hits" me - but not more than a chapter or two. When something stands out to you, write down that verse. Think about the context, what's going on in the scene, and ask God to show you what He wants you to know about it. If you can, look up the original words, and the implications of them. You can spend a week or more on one verse, sometimes.

Also, remember. The Bible only tells us a very tiny portion of Jesus' life. He was a man - with emotions, a sense of humor, He got tired, grumpy, silly, probably teased His sisters and picked on His little brothers. He was human. We worship a man-God.

I would read a chapter or two. I also would pray first asking God to open my eyes and ears to what he wants me to learn that day. You would be amazed at what he will do. I don't think you should worry about following a rigid schedule unless you want to. Be blessed.

The most important thing is to seek to know God through the Bible. It's a relationship with Him you should be aiming for above all else. It's also important to pray with this in mind, see James 1:5 & Eph 1:17-18.

As for how much you should read I can't really say, we are all different in that respect; but what I would say, is read the Bible regularly until it becomes a good habit.

Blessings,
Tee.

 Hi, Cody.

I just got back from camping or I would have posted sooner. It's good to see you again and know you're still seeking. :) How's things going with everything? Is it getting any easier?

On the bible ... that to me is such a good question. I want to be honest and tell you I've never read the whole bible ... but there is much of it I've read and read and read and studied hours. I think because the Lord meets us whereever we're in the place to meet Him that it has to be different for every one. I believe if people are just reading it at all it's a good thing. How could it not be. Here's some things I've heard about the bible. They all have to do with why people read it when they do.

There is one chapter of Proverbs for every day which is like a dialy vitamin of right and wrong values.

The book of Psalm is like the anti-depressant of the bible. You just read them until you feel better.

They say chapter 3 of the book of Ephesians is the very heart of the bible.

They say if you read and understand the book of Romans you know enough about the law to stay out of trouble for the rest of your life.

These are just a few. I'd say you're starting in an excellent place to begin to understand Jesus. There are also some threads here about Jesus. The thread Jesus in the books of the bible, teachings of Christ, and a couple others that are scripture based so it's straight Truth.

Here's a fun way to travel the bible. If you have a bible that has verse numbers down the middle column, look for the verse you are reading and it will give you the scriptures that go with the one you're reading. It helps you know where else to look for a bigger picture. And you just never know where it'll take you ... and what you'll learn while you're there. There is some really cool odds and ends in the bible. Our promises are in the bible but we must usually stand on them first ... It's the same in spirit as when Abraham had to walk on Caanan to possess it. We must walk and stand and hold on to the promises before we possess them ... so to me the bible is a faith walk ... not an organized route ... like I said, I think it's different for everyone. For instance I write in my one big bible but not my little one ... I date everyday the verses I read and take notes, etc. I've been doing this for about five years ... it's interesting now because as I'm reading I can see where I've traveled and where I need to travel in my walk through the bible. Please know not all think it's alright to write in the bible. I'm fine with it ... that's a personal choice.

I hope this helps. God bless, Cody ... stay in touch with us, if you would.
