I just can't get why a person who professes to be a Christian, and does have knowledge of the Bible, can claim that someone who prays to a rock is praying to God and not a god..especially given what Scripture says?

I don't know of anyone who prays to a rock or thinks the sun is God, though.

I do know a couple of Hindus (my neighbors who have a kid my kid's age), a unitarian (down the street the other way), and a couple of Jews (they live across from the unitarians ) very well and I would rather use those examples since they are much more realistic.

Are they praying to the same God I am but just in different ways and with their own different beliefs about who God happens to be?

I would have to say yes. I see no reason why I would say otherwise. I certainly think that some of their beliefs are wrong but I think God is bigger than all of us...

With the Jews, I would agree with you. With the rest, not a chance. When looking at the character, attributes, actions, and requirements of the deity they are praying to I have to maintain that they are pryang to a god....not God. Just as the Israelites were worshipping a lump of gold made to look like a calf...not God.

What you're suggesting is that good little buddhists and muslims can be saved without accepting the truth that God is and what His Word says.

There's a reason why we are called converts.

I might as well pray to my truck, if I follow your logic.

Can you clarify what you mean by "with the Jews I agree"? Thanks.

What criteria are you using to separate Jews from say Hindus?

Why are Christians and Jews worshipping the same God but not say Christians and Hindus or Christians and Muslims?

Jews don't believe in the trinity anymore than Muslims do.

There's a reason why we are called converts.

I think non-Christians can be saved, yes. I don't know if they necessarily will be saved but I'm not going to limit God's grace.

I might as well pray to my truck, if I follow your logic.

Why would you want to do that?

Regardless, what do you make of the story of the Canaanite woman?

The woman knew who Christ was and recognized Him as Lord....muslims and hindus, and people who worship the sun, or pray to trucks don't even come close.

However, since you have admitted that you don't believe God's Word...that non-Christians can be saved, I have nothing else to say to you, knock the dust from my sandals.

I beleive that God is not done with the Jews and I believe they pray to and worship God...not just some random god.

The woman knew who Christ was and recognized Him as Lord....muslims and hindus, and people who worship the sun, or pray to trucks don't even come close.

She called him Lord and Son of David, sure. She was a pagan, though and not a Jew. I highly doubt you can pull from the text, though, that she recognized him as the Word incarnate. I would bet her view was a lot closer to the Prophetic status that Muslims give to Jesus.

Yet she had "great faith" and her daughter was healed.

However, since you have admitted that you don't believe God's Word...that non-Christians can be saved, I have nothing else to say to you, knock the dust from my sandals.

I never "admitted" that I don't believe God's Word. I know it's fun to put words in people's mouths but I didn't say that.

I believe that the Word of God became flesh in Jesus Christ and that we can experience this Word through scripture among other places. I would say that's an affirmation of God's Word and a true experience of God not a denial.

But knock the dust off your sandals all you want. I gotta run anyway..

I didn't comment because, as far as I am concerned, I could have written it. You and I are on the same side of the fence on this one.

This thread is being given an opportunity to cool down, and for the posters in here to do the same. Some of you need to go get your concordance and dictionaries out and look up "charity". Come back when you've figured it out.
