How many years would you say to wait to get married to someone?I have never been married,although I always thought I was going to get married to my ex,he always said he wanted to get married,I was just curious as to how many years you waited.

My situation (listed out elsewhere) is miles from typical.

If you have been dating for over a year, and have gotten to see your SO in more casual settings, like how they interact with their friends, family, coworkers etc. it should give you an over view of what kind of person they are. At that point it would be wise to start talking and praying if you want to get married. Talk to your friends, his/her friends, and see if they have any red flags.

If after 2 years, it is going no where, move on.

I waited until could honestly stand before God said repeat my vows with surety that I believed them.

Many people say that have to know the one you're marrying but we all change over time. No one knows what those changes may bring but I feel that one quality which helps to adapt to those changes is granting each other the right to be unique. We should never expect our mates to be what we want them to be but instead allow them to be who they are.

Wanting to control the situation leads to troubles, so try to find someone who accepts you as you are nd loves you for that uniqueness. It may take time for that to evolve or it may never.
