How long???

I'm wondering how long does the praise and worship in your church go for??
In our church we used to have praise and worship for 1 hour a bit more or a bit less, About a year ago we got a new pastor and he cut down the praise and worship time to half and hour and about a 6 weeks ago he would turn all the lights off and start the service and 5 to 10 and there would still be 30 minutes of praise and worship, starting about 4 weeks ago the service the worship has been cut down to 20 minutes the service still starting at 5 to 10. and it's like worship is forced and they are trying to push it down our throats. the atmosphere is really tense at times,

ours start at 10:30 and is schulded to go to 11:00, but never does..usually more like 11:15 to 11:20,,.just depends on the atmosphere in the church and how God is moving in our music..

yahoo! your church sounds kinda like mine then! it's definitely as the Holy Spirit leads. I believe it's wrong to stifle the Holy Spirit by putting strict limits on worship. My pastor almost always lets the worship continue as long as possible..... He says that is God's part of the service, and the "word" is our part - if there isn't a sermon this week, that's okay, there's always next week....... maybe the Lord wanted His kids to connect with Him in worship this week......

our service starts 10am and finishes usually 11am sometimes longer, if we had ours for 20 mins there would be any point its not long enough...
please tell your pastor to ask what he wants not himself..because worship is so important in the church...

This isn't unusual for the church I attend either.

I wonder what agenda your pastor is trying to push. Unless worship is allowed to become transendent (man touching God/God touching man) singing songs and calling that worship is pointless.

Entering to the presence of God can come quickly or take some time. Flexibility it needed. Sounds like your pastor has some issues...

One thing I've noticed is that if I exercise patience, the "tightening" up of things relaxes again over time. Sometimes the clock-watchers in the congretation become the vocal minority and a man-pleasing pastor will become too accomadating.

Pray that God would have His way in His church. On earth as it is in heaven.

20 minutes sounds a little short, IMO.

30 minutes, plus a song of offering is usually on average what I have seen at the majority of Churches I have attended. This also depends on certain times of the year such as special Easter or Christmas services, as there is usually more Worship at those times.

i envy the ones who have worship that can go on as long as an hour! my church used to do 20 min with the praise and worship team and then some songs in between depending on the pastor's mood. but the presence of God has really been coming into and the amt. of worship time is becoming more flexible. i think yesterday we worshipped for 30 min did the sermon and worshipped for another hour. it was awsome!

Praise and worship? If you mean singing praise and worship songs, then we have exactly 19 minutes. Of course this excludes prayer, ministry time and introduction...

just thought i'd update ya all on what's happening and thank-you for ya replies. The praise and worship time id still 20 minutes and I am getting frustrated, I really frustrated the other week, i was singing up in the band (i do this a couple weeks of each month) and you could feel the spirit start to move and you could tell God was having ago and then when 20 minutes was up the pastor stopped the worship time, after the sermon there was a time that you could go up for prayer and God tried again you could feel it and our pastor went out of the church and turned the lights on and stopped the service. It made me, well i couldn't say angry or mad but i was like "ahhhh". SOmething else happened a few weeks ago (maybe a month) our pastor and his wife went away leaving our assistant pastor in charge and the service was so relaxed worship went for over half an hour and the sermon was short even afterwards people didn't seem to want to leave the church at all. It was eye opening to say the least.
