• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How long since you last self injured?

You matter to us Gorgeous. Please come and talk to us instead of hurting yourself.

Thanks for your kind words Steffi. I actually spoke to my family Dr this morning and he is going to push my appointment ahead with a psychologist. Who knows, maybe I will get something out of it. I was cruel to speak that way about my husband. He does love me deeply. It's just that we are going through the "bad times" in "the good times and the bad". It's really scary to know that by cutting my arms it makes the other pain go away.

Soulwings: it might help to make a connection here beofre thoughts cause you to act. Practice saying that you are in control and that the feelings are not controlling you!! That you are IN control means that the cutting feelings don't have power of you, causing you to act!

You are strong as long as you say no to hurting yourself.

"Jesus, take me, I am yours"

It's been about half an hour now.

I'm sorry.
I can't really say "no" because I see nothing wrong with it, unless it leads people to anger, which it doesn't as long as they don't know. I don't know. I'm just... not strong I guess.

Soulwings: we can not be angry with you, we are trying to help you and we are not your immediate family. But if you no that anger will stop you, why not focus on that?? Focus on the people who care about you getting mad at you!! Let this short circuit these feelings before they start.

And you are strong...you're strong enough to come here and admit that "people getting angry" might change your behavior!! So don't do it!!

Many prayers and I will be thinking of you tonight knowing that you are not going to harm yourself.

You're allowed to be frustrated - we're not going to hold it against you! I hope your appointment goes well.
It's really scary to know that by cutting my arms it makes the other pain go away.
Cutting releases beta endorphins into the system which act as a sort of tranquiliser for the body and allows a person to 'get past' other pain. However it's possibly a permanent injury for pain that won't last forever. The same beta endorphins are relased into your system when you accidentally hurt yourself doing something - that's why when you get hurt, you know you should be hurt but the pain is delayed.
On a more positive note, beta endorphins also come from exercising. If it's possible, go for a jog when you get thoughts that could harm you. It should do the same trick and not leave you feeling bad about hurting yourself afterwards.

We're always here for you Gorgeous!
Shalom,
Steffi

Two Days ago, I feel so ashmed
Two days is great! From what I know, it's pretty hard to just stop anything and walk away from it forever. I know I've said this far too many times but, just to emphasise it, falling isn't failing. The fact that you can get back up again and not give up shows me that you have amazing strength. I have no doubts in my mind that you can do this
