instead
of vain empty society fame and fortune/ people/ that are like the grass; here today and gone tomorrow,

but the "answer that comes from the knowledge(experiential with God) gain from SCRIPTURE" is forever !

Maybe I should construct sentences better. You know I wasn't that meaning scripture is unremarkable, I hope? I was talking about coming to the same conclusions in response to a question is to be expected to happen.

Well as I read Scripture in the Old Testament it would be Israel, rather than the church. If you're from north of the border, I know a lot of Presbyterians see the church in the Old Testament; but anyway this is how I as a dispensationalist see it. More of a symbolic application, really.

Not sure how I see it. I look at what the Lord Almighty says to Israel and Judah as Him revealing His perfect Character to us all.

Oh yes; I would see this as a wonderful application.
(In terms of the immediate reference, I would see it as to Israel, but anyway.)

But a promise of long life was often made in the OT for people who lived for God and served Him well, and people would live out those years.

To which of these promises are you referring? Abel didn't live very long, neither did Jonathan.
