  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How can hard-core opponents of gay marriage say that:

"Gays will burn in hell."

"Homosexual love is not true love."

"Gays and lesbians are disgusting, immoral people."

"Homosexuality is a sin."

I love Ellen DeGeneres. I think she is one of the most funny, witty, and good-hearted women on television. In case you were unaware, Ellen and her girlfriend got hitched a while back. From viewing their wedding video and pictures, it is easy to see that these two people are in love.

Love can not be assigned a gender or an identity - it is universal, yet it means something different to every person. Hopefully, this video helps to prove that.

Warning: If you really don't like gay people, then don't watch. Wouldn't wanna make anybody sick to their stomach... <_<

I watched Rosie's HBO show where she and her partner chartered an entire cruise ship for gay families. I loved it and it was really heart warming to see all these people on the ship together without having to worry about being mistreated because of who they were. Of course when they got off in the Bahamas a large church group was there spewing hate. To this day I have never seen an atheist who is against gay rights or who doesn't understand that 2 men can love each other just as much as a man can love a woman. The more I see the religious persecuting homosexuals the more it reminds me where the majority of the hate was coming from during the civil rights movement. I just finished up Hitchens "God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything" and the hate that this kind of stuff inspires really makes me lean towards that view.

Atheists are all about THEMSELVES and certainly are not going to limit the sins of others when they do not wish to limit their own, not believe they exist... A feel bad if the cruise ship was indeed picketed. I love Ellen also; however, I enjoy her jokes and personality. I don't love her as a result of who she chooses to have sex with.

As for hate, I believe that the most vicious hate is being directed towards Christians who label sin for exactly what it is without the sugar coating. However, I also know that when homosexuals get to know Christians, they soon realize that they have nothing to fear from them. They might not choose to agree with them, but it isn't Christians who insult and ridicule people for what they think. They simply state the fact that biblically speaking, homosexual sex is an error.

Wrong. Christians are all about themselves. They're all about getting into that perfect paradise no matter what the cost.

And as for the sugar coating thing, Jesus said it just how it was without sugar coating. Yet, he was kind, gentle, forgiving, and loving. Much different from the OT God which struck people dead for disobeying him even in the slightest. Not getting your son circumcised or not impregnating your brothers widow was a HUGE no-no.

For a religion that is supposed to be about love and forgiveness, christians really are the most intolerant of the bunch, and then they wonder why they get so much heat for being hypocritical.

Let's also note that there is a distinct difference between christianity and paulianity.

I think it's just that non-theists are more tolerant as a result of not having anything pushing us to decide something is wrong FOR us. Alot of you have all seen me standing up for the rights of homosexuals marrying, but to be honest, I find gay sex a disgusting idea, and the majority, all but a small few gay men I've met in my lifetime, annoyed the living hell out of me. I have a few gay friends, and a very good lesbian friend, but at the end of the day it isn't about only supporting the things you like.

You DO have the right to judge anybody and everybody, judge away, say you don't approve and you think something is sinful if your religious, or that you consider it gross, disgusting, or something that makes you uncomfortable, no media should strangle you for saying that. I DO think that while it isn't wrong to judge someone, it is wrong to actively start an effort to take away the rights of people to do what they wish in many respects. I might not personally feel comfortable with homosexuality, but I'd gladly die for the rights that it represents as the gay marriage issue is just a facet of what our freedoms really mean.

Atheists are not all about themselves as much as they are about leaving everyone else alone when it comes to stuff like this. Nobody can speak for all atheists of course and I'm sure some have their own issues and prejudices, but there is nothing philosophical about atheism that causes anyone to be "all about themselves". Besides, homosexual =/= atheist. Lot's of homosexuals are Christians too.

PS. I really like Ellen. She is one classy gal.

Two lovely people who appear to love each other very much. They've made a commitment to be together for the rest of their lives and to share in the good times and the bad. It IS beautiful and I'm happy for them.

How can hard-core opponents of gay marriage say that:

"Gays will burn in hell."

"Homosexual love is not true love."

"Gays and lesbians are disgusting, immoral people."

"Homosexuality is a sin."
Because it's written in their dusty old book?

Atheists are all about THEMSELVES and certainly are not going to limit the sins of others when they do not wish to limit their own, not believe they exist...
Surely, you're not serious. You've had plenty of interactions with atheists here at CF. What makes you think (all?) atheists are all about themselves? What makes you think we have no limits when it comes to sin (ie; wrongdoing); our own or that of others?

As for hate, I believe that the most vicious hate is being directed towards Christians who label sin for exactly what it is without the sugar coating.
You say that because you have a need to feel persecuted. Isn't that one of the ways Christians get to pretend to be closer to Jesus... through their 'suffering' at the hands of infidels?

However, I also know that when homosexuals get to know Christians, they soon realize that they have nothing to fear from them.
That's only because it's no longer legal to stone homosexuals to death, at least in this country.

They might not choose to agree with them, but it isn't Christians who insult and ridicule people for what they think.
ROFL ^_^ You're funny.

They simply state the fact that biblically speaking, homosexual sex is an error.
And, of course, hearing it one more time is going to cause them to see the light and make them change their sexual orientation. <eye roll>

FloatingAxe used to insult homosexuals when she posted to this forum.

They simply state the fact that biblically speaking, homosexual sex is an error.
But they cannot give any coherent reason for why this should be.

Because Christians cannot and do not want to comprehend that to us, the Bible is not a coherent reason to judge others. To us it's just a book, and we want real reasons. Throwing scripture at an atheist means you might as well be speaking to them in another language.

You mean "God said so!" isn't good enough for you?

(I'm unusually sarcastic today. Don't know why.)

The GOD of the OLD TESTAMENT was dealing with people/nations through the LAW. Right now GOD is dealing with people/nations through GRACE and with HIS CHURCH. GOD will one day catch away HIS CHURCH and then once again deal legalistically with people and nations in perfect judgment.

To a Christian, human logic is not reasonable. We know all too well that unregenerated man is blind to the truth. It is only when GOD saves an individual that that individual begins to be conformed to the image of CHRIST. Until then we might as well be speaking to the unrepentant in a different language...

There are reasons why Jews don't view Jesus as the son of God. We will leave it at that.

But if you think that someone should be killed because they didn't get the extra skin on their penis cut off, then I don't know what to tell you.

Your blindness to the subjectivity of truth is your folly, not ours. Where as we look at your truth and decide that we don't believe it, you choose not even to look in the first place, which is ignorance.

First of all, I fail to see how Atheism ties in with homosexuality.

Second, as an Atheist, I have to say that I am most certainly not "all about myself". I don't believe in the existence of Biblical sin, but I feel that that there are certain wrongdoings that any man or woman should with even a sliver of self-respect should avoid (promiscuous sex, drugs, obsessive drinking, etc). I hold myself to very high standards and I encourage others to do the same.

I give to charities and just try to be a decent human being... to be kind and giving towards others.

As for hate, I believe that the most vicious hate is being directed towards Christians who label sin for exactly what it is without the sugar coating. Biblically speaking, yes, homosexuality is considered an "error" punishable by death. However, scientific research of homosexuality shows that it is genetic. The same genes can be found in hundreds of animal species other than humans, and has also been shown to actually increase fertility within a population.

We know so much more about Homosexuality than we did when the bible was written, in the days before we were able to test for abnormalities in the genetic code.

I find it ironic that the person saying two strangers shouldn't be permitted to freely pursue their happiness because he doesn't like it is calling others "all about themselves". Especially when many of those others are actively fighting for the human rights of those strangers and many others when, in most cases, there is no immediate and direct benefit to themselves.

And I know the standard response will be 'it's not about me it's about God' but most of western society realised several centuries ago that personal beliefs about God are not matters for the public sphere since that approach will ultimately lead to bloody conflict and religious wars. I think it's time you caught up.

Well most gay eople will marry just to make a political statement. It has nothing to do with love or a family or any other factor related to marriage.
