How involved is God in a person's life?

God does not live in time and space, he know [sic] everything that will happen to us as individuals and as nations. Therefore he can make his overall plans work through our individual lives, allowing us to have freewill. He is God, Maker of Heaven and Earth, which he made in six days, if he can do this he can answer prayers, and make things happen for us.

I don't want to make a new thread about this because I'm sure there are 70,000 out there already and I don't want to hijack this thread, but I truly don't understand how these things can be reconciled at all.
