I am not morning person (my first class is at 10). Yet I have decided to start getting up 40 minutes early and heading up to the chapel for our oncampus ministry and spend 30 minutes or so praying. Some of this is singing, some is reading my bible, some is praying (Praise, intercession, Petition, and Thanksgiving), and sometimes I just sit and listen. I always end by consecrating my day to God.
I pray at little times during the day as well, as I pass people on campus, or notice things. Sometimes I just feel as if someone needs prayer, so while in transit between classes I generally find myself praying or singing litanies.
At night, I try and make another trip to the chapel before going to bed. This way I wont fall asleep, and I can focus better, and can sing all I want without offending anyone (not the greatest voice in the world). I am generally there for about 45 minutes. One thing I always try and do is spend at least 5 minutes just listening. We cant hear what God is trying to tell us unless we listen. And so I spend part of that time just listening to what God is trying to tell me. And on the way back to my room I generally sing.
I find my prayer time to be essential in my life as a Christian. It brings focus to my life. It starts out my day with Christ, and ends it with Him as well. In this way, He is present more and more in my life. It also helps with my faith walk. And the important part is when the prayer times seem "dry," then it matters all the more, for even if you arent getting something out of it, you are still doing it. That is commitment to God, and abandonment to Him.
God bless all!
