  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Quiet or devotional time is a length of time you dedicate to God, by praying, reading the Bible and/or singing. Do you practice a quiet time? If you do then when, for how long and what time of day? How important is it to you?

I try to have a devotional time in between classes in the afternoon. I usually don't get up early enough before classes to have it in the morning. And I am exhausted by the end of the day and pass out on my bed when I get back to my room.

i have unfortunately gotten out of this habit for awhile, and just started back up and boy does it feel great!! i usually have mine around bedtime-how long just depends. mornings don't work so well for me b/c i am too sluggish and don't wake up early very often. at bedtime, i find it is a great end to the day, even if it wasn't a good day.

Quiet devotional time is such an important aspect of our spiritual life that believe it's essential.
I'm a firm believer in setting aside time at night to read the bible before going to bed and meditating on His word before getting up in the morning. As well as praying in our cars on the way to work.

Oh man, quiet time for me is time dedicated for my own spiritual uplifting. I try to do that every time i wake up in the morning and before i go to bed...it is totally essential for me because i get to be reminded of God and His character and thus be inspired to do likewise.

Nice to hear that u're trying to do it in between classes. I've seen students on campus doing just that alone or on the bus. If there's more people like that around, then everyone will be talking about Christianity..haha

I think time ALONE with God is importnat in Him being able to grow us. Sure He will find a way, but it is an awesome experience to go before Him and notn set a limit on times or how long you have to study, but just give God a part of your day and let Him know that you are there for HIS use.

I would encourage that even if you know you aren't going to have time to read your Bible to carry it along for encouragement, you never know when God will provide an opportunity for you to share His Word, and I personally do not want to be caught without the Sword of Truth in hand. God may also provide a time for you to spend with Him that you may not expect. He's cool like that.

God Bless,

Exactly. I really think that one of the main reasons that people say "I'm not growing" is because they aren't in the Word. Praying and reading the Word is the foundation of what the rest of the true Christian walk is about. If you do not have the time to spend time alone with the LORD then somethings gotta go. God wants us to spend time with him first then serve in other ways. This is clear in the Scriptures

I am NOT a morning person! I am horribly grumpy in the morning if I don't wake up JUST right, you know? (Mornings can be rough around my house!) But about a year and a half ago, God told me to give Him the first hour of my day as a quiet time. I reminded Him of how EARLY that would be for me. Of course, He already knew that! So I did it....cause He's God and He said so! And it has been the best thing I've ever done. It's a precious time that we spend together before the day starts, and it truly equips me for the rest of the day.

I think every Christian should have a quiet time. it's Biblical; Jesus even did it!

I'm glad it's a vacation week from school this week. Actually if a certain situation hadn't of happened, I don't think I would be trying to be a stronger Christian and taking as much time for God as I should of been. I spent the day with God today, and I'm telling you, I've never felt so good! God taught me, He talked to me, He's flowing through out my body and emotions right now. It's great to be alive and it's great to be loved by God!

I am not morning person (my first class is at 10). Yet I have decided to start getting up 40 minutes early and heading up to the chapel for our oncampus ministry and spend 30 minutes or so praying. Some of this is singing, some is reading my bible, some is praying (Praise, intercession, Petition, and Thanksgiving), and sometimes I just sit and listen. I always end by consecrating my day to God.

I pray at little times during the day as well, as I pass people on campus, or notice things. Sometimes I just feel as if someone needs prayer, so while in transit between classes I generally find myself praying or singing litanies.

At night, I try and make another trip to the chapel before going to bed. This way I wont fall asleep, and I can focus better, and can sing all I want without offending anyone (not the greatest voice in the world). I am generally there for about 45 minutes. One thing I always try and do is spend at least 5 minutes just listening. We cant hear what God is trying to tell us unless we listen. And so I spend part of that time just listening to what God is trying to tell me. And on the way back to my room I generally sing.

I find my prayer time to be essential in my life as a Christian. It brings focus to my life. It starts out my day with Christ, and ends it with Him as well. In this way, He is present more and more in my life. It also helps with my faith walk. And the important part is when the prayer times seem "dry," then it matters all the more, for even if you arent getting something out of it, you are still doing it. That is commitment to God, and abandonment to Him.

God bless all!
