• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

How I quit smoking for good.

One day I was sitting in the library and my chest was hurting and I told God to take away the pain and I promise I'll quit smoking. So I stopped for a few weeks until one day the craving crept up on me really bad and I gave in and took 2 puffs. Right then my cousin, who still has not accepted Christ into his life, blurted out of nowhere saying, "You're ruining the temple of God"
I felt horrible so I dropped the cigarette and then realize that I just broke my promise with Him. I seeked a pastor and she told me that it is the demon of idolatry that is causing me to smoke. some of you guys might not believe it but there are all sorts of demons in us that makes us do things, like smoking and lusting. so she gave me this prayer to say to cast out the demon. and I said it outloud and ever since that day I havent crave for a cigarette at all. I am a 10+ year smoker and its been about 2-3 months since I stopped. I dropped it cold turkey with no patches, no gums, nothing. You guys can do this too. Put yourself on check and tell God "ok God I will stop smoking for this whole week" after the week is over, if you really need to, smoke 1 cigarette. then tell God again, "God I will not smoke for this next whole week" break yourself down from the nicotine bits by bits until you finally are freed from it.
