How historical is the Doctrine of the Perseverance of the Saints?

I was just curious about this. Was Calvin one of the earliest to believe in this doctrine, or were there people believing in this doctrine long before him, as in soon after the Bible was written?

Based on these verses, I would say that the Lord told Paul about it.

Ro 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Ro 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Ro 8:30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
