  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi there, this thread is aimed at people who accept the evidence for human-caused climate change and is not meant as a debate around this fact - please keep that elsewhere.

A lot of my peers seem to accept climate change but have a sort of numb reservation about it and don't really progress towards any behavioural changes beyond trying to recycle more (if that). My wife and I have switched to vegetarianism about a year ago and will probably try to edge towards veganism or phase out dairy too. Both of us like meat but we feel beyond choosing not to reproduce this is probably the biggest impact we can have on conservation without entering the world of politics. To caveat: there're probably a lot of other behavioural changes we could make, but don't - so this isn't intended in any form of ''hollier than thou" way.

For those motivated to make an impact as individuals - what changes have you made and is there any advice you can give?

For those who do believe in human caused climate change but don't think the individual can do anything, what should we be doing?

Use less fossil fuels?

  • Transportation (28.9 percent of 2017 greenhouse gas emissions) – The transportation sector generates the largest share of greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions from transportation primarily come from burning fossil fuel for our cars, trucks, ships, trains, and planes. Over 90 percent of the fuel used for transportation is petroleum based, which includes primarily gasoline and diesel.2
  • Electricity production (27.5 percent of 2017 greenhouse gas emissions) – Electricity production generates the second largest share of greenhouse gas emissions. Approximately 62.9 percent of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels, mostly coal and natural gas.3
  • Industry (22.2 percent of 2017 greenhouse gas emissions) – Greenhouse gas emissions from industry primarily come from burning fossil fuels for energy, as well as greenhouse gas emissions from certain chemical reactions necessary to produce goods from raw materials.
  • Commercial and Residential (11.6 percent of 2017 greenhouse gas emissions) – Greenhouse gas emissions from businesses and homes arise primarily from fossil fuels burned for heat, the use of certain products that contain greenhouse gases, and the handling of waste.
  • Agriculture (9.0 percent of 2017 greenhouse gas emissions) – Greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture come from livestock such as cows, agricultural soils, and rice production.
  • Land Use and Forestry (offset of 11.1 percent of 2017 greenhouse gas emissions) – Land areas can act as a sink (absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere) or a source of greenhouse gas emissions. In the United States, since 1990, managed forests and other lands have absorbed more CO2 from the atmosphere than they emit.

I grow a lot ( too many) of houseplants . I recycled before it was the law now it is in nyc . I used those curly lightbulbs long before they started banning regular lightbulbs . I wish I could do more as this is a serious problem.

I dont know that I do much specifically other than the usual recycling, being aware of water usage (I'm in Australia). I only use my car when I have to, I'm in a small country town so do have to use it at times.
I think what I do is more because God said that man was to look after creation as good stewards rather than trying to stem climate change.
Although everything we do helps and we should be responsible I don't believe we can stop it because everywhere I look here I see creation groaning and I long for the Lord to come again and the new heaven and earth where we will live with Him forever.
