I was reading the book Jewish Spirituality, a brief introduction for Christians by Lawrence Kushner when I came across an interesting thought in the chapter on the Torah.
Because we each hear the words of Torah in a unique way, Jews routinely argue about their meaning [sound familiar]. When Jews disagree or agree about the meaning of Torah, they are actually helping one another to become better Jews.
In Hebrew this argument is called a lshaym shamayim : and argument for the sake of heaven or an argument for Gods sake.
I though about this over the weekend while I was reading this book, and I thought how posting on CF (and the resulting debates I have gotten into) has helped me in some of the things I understand about the Bible.
So I thought I would start a thread (fellowship in nature) about how CF has helped people in their understanding of the Bible. I sure dont want this to turn into a debate thread, just some highlights of things youve learned.
Ill start, here are some issues that after being in several discussion on CF I have a better understanding of:
