  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How Happy?

well happiness is always tied to something. Even if you say "I can make myself happy with nothing", than your happiness is tied to your conviction. Thus that's why I say that without God people's happiness is situational.

People are either miserable that they are not in the place they want to be, or they are anxious beyond belief of losing everything that makes them happy and becoming miserable as a result.

depending on god for happiness is just as situational. you feel god wont let you down, and other people feel their situation wont let them down. both have the potential to be right or wrong, and both are entirely conditional.

well that's only if you view God as the divine slot machine. Consider Job. He lost EVERYTHING. Yet whether Job knew it or not God was working greater issues in him through his soul in the mists of his sufferings. Yes Job was angry, yes he wasn't really happy either, however God does rebuke him at the end for failing to see things the way they were. "god is only good when life is good" was job's philosophy. we talk alot about the mistake of his friends, but not alot about the mistake of job himself. The whole test was "i wonder if Job trusts me enough to put his trust in me when i rock the boat". Job obviously did not, blaming the situation largely on God's heart, and God rebukes him very harshly for this, Job receives a bigger rebuke than even his false comforters did.

Why do i say this? because the mark of someone who puts 100% of their trust in god will say "God has a purpose even in this" no matter WHAT happens to them. thus our happiness is not conditional if it's placed in god's hands who works everything together for our good :)

Well...I...I get really happy when I color in coloring books, or watch Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Seseme Street, and Reading Rainbow.

And..I get happy when I garden...yes, I am 21 year old girl who likes to prun flowers!:flatt:

And I get happy when I drink strawberry soda!:love2:

depending on god for happiness means using him like a slot machine? you said exactly the opposite in your previous posts. you said "without God people's happiness is situational," implying we should rely on him for happiness.

all youre saying is "this is my condition, if you make the condition anything ELSE, its conditional". youre stipulating a conditional happiness just like anyone else does.

you didn't quite understand what I said here :) I used the slot machine allegory because depending on God the way you described that people depend on him WOULD be like viewing him as a slot machine. I was contrasting your definition with mine

i didnt put forth a definition of what god does or should do, i said you are relying on a situational happiness if you are relying on god for happiness.

thats probably why this keeps going back and forth---my entire issue with what youre saying is summed up in that portion you seem to have trouble with.
