  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've been pondering these verses lately from 1 Cor 7

vs 17
Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him.

vs 20
Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him.

vs 24
Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to.

this has become an issue lately for a number of reasons
does this mean as a single when God called me i now shouldn't marry?
does this mean i shouldn't change my job from the one i have now as this was the job i was in when God called me?

how far do you take these verses?
i have only taken these verses out so the whole context isn't quoted here.

the first and the third verse refer to following God's calling. if He tells you to do something you should do it. as for the second verse, i would think it means not to make decisions on your own. i think it refers to becoming a preacher.
unless God calls upon you to quit your job and start preaching, don't. God has a plan for all of us, not everybody is meant to be a preacher or a teacher of the Word.

What does God say about service with one spiritual gift towards the church... not to look to get married but to serve the body... if one burns and they are courting with a believer ... get married so that you do not burn and tempt oneself farther than one can handle

wisdom... here

Jobs are a place to get paid to pay the bills ... but sometimes in tough situations : God has a purpose so that a unbeliever can hear the gospel or a believer to see how a fellow believer hold up under pressure...

grow where you are planted ... sit at the foot of the table until you are recognized and called forward ...

ecclesiastes 10 bread upon the waters & ecclesiastes 3 times and seasons

if you are called to be a minister ... study , graduate , apprentice yourself ... do that which you are required to do & when He ^ sees you seasoned and ready , he will move , promote , reveal ... does not mean that you are to remain in a particular house , relationship , state , perpetually ...

Do remember that the early church was colored by as intense degree of expectation (of the second coming). Often when making statements like this (and perhaps in this chapter), Paul refers to these as part of the 'present crisis'- that is, the crisis a sudden expectation.
