I love history anyway....I have been doing it that long perhaps.....This year I became pretty active and found out some things I had not known before.....I could never find my grandmother...I looked and looked and nothing...STARINELSON said:It's very addictive. I got "addicted" early on listening to my dad tell stories of when he gre up in rural Arkansas. I've been actively researching for about 12-15 years now.

I totally understand. The same thing happened with my ggrandmother. My dad knew nothing about her except her name & where she died. I finally located a older cousin who remembered a last name that she referred to often. I researched that last name & it's forums. I posted questions and when I finally got the correct answer I thought I was going to cry ... or shout.... or something. I think I did cry a little. The cousin who identified my ggrandmother said the family had been wondering for years if she had any descendants !Savedsis said:I love history anyway....I have been doing it that long perhaps.....This year I became pretty active and found out some things I had not known before.....I could never find my grandmother...I looked and looked and nothing...
Well last year an aunt died and they mentioned my grandmother's first name...I had not searched that name...Only the name she went by...Well I looked up that first name...(I did not know it before)...And there she was.....It was so exciting.....I sent for death certificates, marriage certificates and really got into it......I also have some civil war documents (my great grandfather..)...Loads of fun....

That's one of the best parts plus finding relatives you've never known !Maeyken said:I've gotten one line traced back to the late 1500/early 1600's although it's mostly based on other people's research so I can't trust it 100%. It's pretty cool though, especially when you find info about the people, like where they lived, what they did, etc.
lol I've had "brick walls" plenty of times!GodsElf said:Hi Everyone:
My first post and I headed straight into genealogyI have worked on genealogy for several years. I have traced back to only the late 1700's - early 1800's. I am stuck at a "burned county" in Virginia so it's slow going at the moment.

I love genealogy.
I have my name through my father back to about 1525 or so. Most of their names are prefixed with "Sir" or "Lord" that far back. How he came to America was kind of interesting though. My many-greats grandfather participated in the Monmouth Rebellion in 1685 and was sent to Barbados the next year as a slave by the king. He was married there after getting his freedom in 1698.
