• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm just wondering if anyone who has been able to stop self injury has done so by having a contract or a written agreement with another person. I'm wondering how well it worked if anyone has. I have stopped cutting for a few months- I think a large part of that is due to the fact that I do have that type of agreement- I'm just having doubts about how long it will continue to keep me from the cutting once again. I know a person can't stop until they want to themselves and i do want to, its just hard to not think about that as an option even though it has been a few months since I have cut. So I guess what my main question would be is has anyone used that type of agreement before, and if so, did it work to help them stop or how long did it work for?
Thanks

As a matter of fact, in another post, I mentioned I made a agreement with God (about self-injury).
I made a pledge to God and I have kept it to this day.
What I think was behind the success was a sincere desire to stop such self-destructive behavior.

So, yes-it can be done! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

That might of worked for a little while with me just because I wouldn't want to let the other person down. But I think it really has to be something that you decide you really want to stop not to please or displease another person but because it is time for you. I don't know I'm just glad no one ever made me do it before I was ready.
