  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jehoiakim, thank you for posting. I have a church family that I love in my home town in another state. I don't have one where I live. I'm looking for a church family that understands the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I was never taught about those things in my church. Today I went to a new church. The preacher was great....but it didn't seem right. I feel bad. I'll keep trying. Do you have a suggestion on the type of church I should try?!

assemblies of God is much more open abotu the gifts, but they can be a real mixed bag. There is a lot of variation between AG churches. Our previous church was AG... barely, that was the perfect amount of AG for me. You could also try some independent churches. Stay away from anything reformed

Hi!

I really, really enjoyed what you said. Very clear, balanced and sincere. Thank you, it helps me a lot.

A way that I see God using this gift through me is through prayer. Sincerely, I never ever say "Thus say the Lord". But almost everytime I pray in a group or for someone I feel things from their life, or things the Lord wants to do and I just say them in a form of a prayer. So if I feel God wants to deliver them from rejection, I simply pray for the rejection to leave and not make such a big deal by saying "the Lord is telling me you have a problem with rejection...". Or if I am at the prayer meeting and I feel God wants to do something, I just pray for that thing.

But I do have a question for you, maybe you can advice me. I don't know what this really is, but I often feel when people are in danger because of sin. I just can sense when they are in rebellion, in sin or when they are insincere. Time proves me that I was right, even though I don't want to be right. What is this? A discernment gift?

I think it sounds like you have an extraordinary gift! You just have to becareful how you use it. I have a close friend who has a similar gift but as right as he he most of the time, he gets so caught up in it he sometimes takes the intuition and leaves the Holy Spirit out and jumps in with what he thinks is right. That reaction has I believe also weakened his gift an now he has trouble distinguishing between what is really going on and what he is reading into. I have had to correct him a few times and many times because of his gift he doesn't hear the correction and I think he is sometimes desensitized to the Holy Spirit because he believes in his gift so much it actually clouds his gift. I don't however get that vibe from you at all. i get the sense that you are a very empathetic and humble person which can serve to inhance the gift even more so :). Thanks for the reply I am humbled anytime someone gets something out of the mess I put forth. It helps me remember God can work through anyone even me :)

Thank you! You had helped me a lot, even if you don't remember. A year ago I had a big trial in which I thought I lost my salvation and you had helped me a lot by telling me some things. :)

Also, can you tell me the difference or the main differences between a prophet and a person who has a prophetic gift and what are the limits of the last one? I really don't think I am a prophet, but I know that I have a prophetic gift and I really want to use it right and biblical and I don't know teachings about it. From the video, I understood that we use the prophetic gift to help people in their relationship with God or to humbly correct them? Also, from the Bible I got the fact that a prophetic word is given to strengthen and to build up.

I operate in the prophetic and I will tell you this; before you start doing anything, get solidly grounded in God's Word. If you are given a word to speak, you should do so with a holy and reverential fear... it's not something to be taken lightly or flippantly. I loathe the thought of speaking out of turn with God or speaking from my flesh. If I'm not fairly certain that God is indeed asking me to speak something (there is definately an element of faith required) I just keep my mouth shut and keep praying until I am sure.

You also have to be extremely careful that you are not speaking something that you shouldn't speak -- this takes discernment. Some "words" are given to pray over, some words are given to speak.

In short, I'm saying you must be EXTREMELY careful. I've seen tremendous blessing when this gift is used properly and I've seen tremendous damage when it's not -- I've personally experienced both and believe me it hurts like no other hurt when people are operating under what they "think" is God when it in fact is the enemy.

Knowing God's Word will provide the "guard rails" to keep you from going off the road and you will find that you can discern a true word from the LORD very accurately. Conversely, you will also be able to discern when the word is coming from a source not of the Holy Spirit. When you have been exposed enough to a true word(s) from the LORD, you will be able to discern the counterfeit... it does take time though.

God bless.

Thanks again for the compliments:). There is a movement among people who have a prophetic gift who call themselves prophets or call others prophets. Personally I don't like to use that title for myself or others because it puts focus on the messanger instead God who gives the gift because of that I refer to people as ha ing a prophetic gift instead of prophets. There also seems to go with the word prophet this idea tha prophets are somehow athouritative so I am even more cautios for that reason. Looking back at someone's life after they have passed I feel more comfortable addressing them as a prophet but still a faulted man but even then I am careful. I hope that makes some sense.

Wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL. This is an excellent attitude to have! Humility is everything!!

Fabulous. You definately "get it".

Motivations are EVERYTHING when it comes to ministering, especially in the prophetic. If your motives are kept clean then your words are kept pure. The opposite is also true.

I'll never forget a time when my wife and I were dating and I was relatively new in the Lord, but knew I had a prophetic gift (and so did my wife). God was using me quite a bit to minister to her about various things. One night when I was praying for her and it was evident that God was really moving on her heart, pride crept into my heart (I thought - wow I must be really something special to God) and I got a clear picture of Jesus standing between my wife and I. He said to me "Stephen, never ever forget that this is about Laurie (my wife) and not you. I show you the things that I do so that you can minister my great love to her. When I give to you to speak, it is always about the other person, not you."

Blessings brother!!

Thanks for the explanations, brothers! Really helpful! I pray that God would keep me as humble as you are and that I will never boost in anything but Him!

Amen. As long as you keep in mind that God's gifts are intended for the body and not to elevate ourselves or be of any "reputation", then you will be fine. Just remember:

1st Corinthians 1-3 said:
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

God bless you sister!!

. In 1 Corinthians 12 it says there does remain the "office of prophet". ("And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.") There is a difference from the prophetic gifting and the actual "office" of prophet, as can be observed in the scriptures regarding the operation and organization of the church.

The call and description of the tasks of the new convenant/new creation prophets and all of the other giftings in operation through Christ Jesus is this;

Ephisians 4:11 and in 2 Corinthians 5;
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.20 We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us."

And.....to participate in restoring all things;
Matthew 17:10-12

10 The disciples asked him, “Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. "

This is really what terrifies me the most that will happen to me. I pray always that I will be humble when I hear from Him to speak to others. Im scared all this is coming from my imagination (i know not all but im scared im going to tell someone something that hasnt come from God).
