Before Judaism and Christianity, there was creation, and God performed the first marriage. It was Adam who prophetically defined marriage as one man and one woman who "shall be one flesh" (Gen 2:23,24), but in doing so he also prophesied about the mystery of the union of Christ and His Church (the Lamb's Wife) (Eph 5:30-33). The institution of marriage is worldwide, and goes back all the way to creation, but Christian marriage is supposed to typify the union and communion of Christ and His eternal Wife.
When people say marriage is holy, do they mean its dedicated by God?
To me it doesn't make any sense to say it is dedicated to God or a religious purpose.
Bible never defines that marriage is holy; it is honorable. Marriage is never advocated in the entire NT for strong willed.
What do people mean when they say marriage is holy?
People with lack of understanding of spiritual values are glorifying marriage inappropriately
No, holy also means dedicated or consecrated BY GOD. The marriage vows aren't something dedicated or consecrated to God as it is consecrated and dedicated by God. Spouses don't make love as an act of worship to God but as an act of devotion and love to each other in a union God has blessed.
What lack of understanding are you referring to? The Purpose of Marriage is Not to Make You Holy
I read a youtube comment on the subject.
It is celibacy that is holy, not marriage.
having a spiritually pure quality:
Holy in what sense of the term? Marriage isn't holy in this way?
the definition of holy
I don't think a celibate person can say to a married, "I'm holy/holier than thou".
It is celibacy that is holy, not marriage.
It is possible that one who is married could be pulled into dealing with cooking, cleaning, making money, etc, more than one who is unmarried. After all, Paul says this can happen.
But being single is no guarantee that free time and attention will be spent on God.
And I have known many married couples who prayed and ministered together, and they were much stronger as a team than they would have been as singles.
told her followers during her TV ministry broadcast that she “prophesies” while being intimate with her husband. And yet despite such outright blasphemy and perversion she boldly proclaims that she receives her messages directly from God
One of his worst offenses in the sermon was telling the story of a woman who “won her husband to Christ” by intimate acts. This again is taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ and turning it to “lasciviousness.” What Driscoll is teaching is a false Gospel and disrespectful to The Lord in the extreme
Women preachers/pastors
By marriage not being holy, are you referring to people spiritualizing it? There is blasphemy in the church related to that.

A covenant is an agreement, contract if you will, where both sides agree on what is stated in the covenant.
For a Christian a marriage covenant also agrees with God's word for it to be legal.

Marriage isn't holy? The entire Protestantism is about glorifying marriage unsupported by the Bible especially the NT
Marriage isn't holy?
Holy -
from: Definition of HOLY
- exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness
- divine for the Lord our God is holy — Psalms 99:9 (King James Version)
- devoted entirely to the deity or the work of the deity a holy temple holy prophets
- having a divine quality
We also need to look at "divine".
Divine -
from: Definition of DIVINE
- of, relating to, or proceeding directly from God
How does "marriage" not fit the meaning of "holy" or "divine"? The institution is obviously worthy of devotion - are we not to be devoted to our marriages? It's certainly divine - "proceeding directly from God" - God directly instituted it between Adam & Eve.
Not supported in the NT? Jesus said marriage is a joining by God - Mark 10:9.
It is honorable to distinguish from animals, what do you mean by that
Church Fathers & Doctors
So the comments on the marriage relationship by theologians were true

God defined sex as a marital act, so in a sense it is holy as marriage is holy. Just because people can abuse it doesn't change what it is supposed to be.what about people who say sex is holy that doesnt make sense, considering how ungodly it seems to me when people use expletives and the blasphemy the quotes of certain false teachers i quoted on 130.
You're confusing the Old Testament and the old covenant. Also, that makes no sense, as shown by the example I gave with Jesus in the Gospel of Mark. Jesus was teaching about marriage and based it on God's institution of it in the Old Testament. If it was no longer valid, Jesus wouldn't be basing His teaching on it.The OT standards are no longer valid for spiritually higher calling in the NT.
