  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think that's how it's spelt !

Oh well, my boyfriend's mother suggested I could knit him an afgan for Christmas, and that she had the thread that she could give me. I don't know how to make one though! We have some at our house, but would I use a really long needle?

Could someone tell me..

Hi! :) You might like to look in places like HobbyLobby or AC Moore for free patterns. I have picked up free patterns there in the past and they can be nice and easy as well as looking quite stunning. You would need to read your chosen pattern carefully to see how much yarn and what needles are required. You might find some ideas online. Have you checked out www.lionbrand.com? Here is a link to their free afghan patterns. There may be something there you like :)

Depending on the afghan pattern, you might use regular length needles and make it in panels that need to be sewed together, or "circular needles". These are needles that are connected by a long flexible nylon cord. Or if you know how to crochet, you could try that too. Personally, I find that I can crochet something a lot faster than I can knit. Try the websites for the major yarn companies for free patterns--Lion Brand, Red Heart, Bernat. Good luck with you project and have fun with it.
