  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How does God talk to you?

Hello forums! Thank you for all your replies before, I have another question!

How do you know what God wants you to do next? Sometimes it's hard to listen in on what is on His heart and I have trouble hearing Him. How does He speak to you? Sometimes it feel like a one-sided conversation, you know? I don't want to feel like I'm all talk and no listen. Is it because I have selective hearing? I want to hear God! :(

Usually God speaks to me through the scriptures I hear or read (not always all of them but those that really sort of jump out at me and I say.."Oh, I see or Oh, I hear." And God speaks to me through some of the things others say or advice..especially mature Christians I know and trust or people in pastoral ministry over me. Also God often speaks to me in the circumstances of my life..that is..things that happen to me often help set me on a better course in life and bring me closer to God. And God also speaks to me through the "still, small voice" of my conscience within which helps me decide what to do next, whether I am doing what God wants, and generally gives me a sort of peace inside when I am on the right track. (not peaceful when not though). There are more cause I sure don't want to limit God..but these are the main ones I can think of now.

God is often silent but that doesn't mean God isn't listening. Sometimes while praying it helps me to get really quiet and wait in that silence. If I don't hear anything at all it is okay because doing this I often have such peace and to me..that peace within is God speaking too. :)

The Holy Spirit talks to us in many ways. He will put a thought in your head that you know is not your thought. A Scripture will jump out at you over something you are praying about.

Many things will happen that will bring people across your path which will be the Holy Spirit talking to you.

For example - I was volunteering at the hospital yesterday and one of the gals that works ther came and sat by me - I did not know her - the subject came up about which I could direct her to a web page for help - she made the comment - God led me to come visit with you today - He knew what I needed.

If we just follow the leading of the Holy Spirit you will see God speaking to you more and more.

Another example - my husband's daughter has been distant with the family for a long many years - he was going to visit her - 250 miles away- the Lord put on my heart to stay home and let him go alone because they needed to talk - so I stayed home and they had a three hour talk and sorted out many misunderstandings and now things are fine - just listen for that still small voice.

The Bible always makes me think about God, Jesus Christ, and their place in my life. However, God talks to me through actual people. Most frequently, my mom. She gives me great words. I love her more than anyone in this world. Probably more than myself. So I believe God speaks to me through her. Also through some great pastors I see on television, youtube, and in person at Church

The Lord speaks to me in several ways.

1. Through His written word.

2. Through another born again believer.

....are two ways.

I have to learned that the Holy Spirit can use anything and everything to speak to me. The Spirit just has to be involved.

And, anything He tells me never contradicts the written Word of God.

Be Blessed!

I have to agree with a lot posted above. I've heard the "small, still voice" (sometimes not so small...sometimes not so still), through the Bible, through other people "being there" just when I needed to hear something, sometimes he will physically show me something, or a song will come on the radio that will answer a question I posed to him...

Sometimes it's not your ears you need to listen...

Contrary to popular belief, God doesn't engage in idle chit chat. You have to realize that He is God, and when He speaks things happen. You also need to be aware that when God speaks to you it's because He has something to say to you. And, when He does speak to you He will do it in a way that you will not doubt that He has spoken to you.

If you're not hearing from God then you're probably doing everything you're supposed to be doing, so rest in that and know that if things change He'll let you know.

I think God communicates to me most through His word. There are other ways though. Sometimes he'll give me a thought. Sometimes he might speak to me through a dream. Sometimes he'll speak to me through people or situations. I think you just have to be open at all times to hear what He has to say.

I believe that He answers all of our prayers, either yes, no, or not yet. Sometimes no and not yet seem like the same answer so you just have to be patient.

God communicates as He wills, through silence, His Voice, the still small voice of our own spirit, His Word, prophecies, whether through those we know or strangers, His Voice is recognizable, and known by His lambs. One of the biggest shortcomings of the church today (IMHO) is that of pastors who don't know The Lord, who only know 'about' Him, not teaching their congregation how to hear The Voice of God for themselves.

If you pray to God daily and open up to him personally he will respond. You gotta start a conversation with God. If you wait for him to talk to you first, you won't see clearly what he's saying because there's no conversation. It would be just scriptures. You need to be more talkative to God like you would do with a good friend.
One more thing. Sometimes God will communicate with you through things that are personal in your life, like your favorite things, ECT... He's more likely to speak this way especially if you know him personally.
