What if the atheist has his ears - and any other senses necessary - wide open but still doesn't hear anything God is communicating?[/quote

He could use the same method that He used with Saul who became Paul.

He could use the same method that He used for Pharoah, or for Nebuchadnezzar.

He can speak to their hardened hearts through other people, through a reading, through their children (out of the mouth of babes).

People who do not believe in God will always have the choice to not hear or listen even when they go through dire circumstances...

The scripture does speak of a reprobate mind...

What if the atheist doesn't hear anything from God? How then could such an atheist have a choice to hear something which he cannot hear?

If God did everything possible to make sure the atheist knew what he was hearing was from God, then how could the atheist have a choice whether or not to believe in Him? The choice has to be able to flow both ways in order for it to be a choice.

God will never coerce you into belief in him, because belief leads to submission and you must not be forced to obey God when you don't want to.

Jesus said that there were people who heard him speaking, and yet didn't receive his message. They saw his miracles and yet they couldn't see he was the Christ. So it is not merely about appealing to your physical senses.

A rebellious heart isn't interesting in God's kingdom or lifestyle.. A humbled heart is open to change, and God can help them with living a new life in Him.

We should be able to answer this question based on our own experiences. After all, no one is born believing in God. Even if you're born into a Christian family, that doesn't guarantee you'll become a Christian. Sure, when you're a little kid, you'll believe anything your parents tell you, including the saving grace of Jesus Christ, that Santa Claus delivers presents to the whole world on Christmas, and that the Easter bunny brings chocolate eggs while we are in church, celebrating the resurrection.

However, even those little kids come to a point in their lives when they start questioning what they were taught and either make a personal and mature decision for Christ, or reject him and go along another path.

In any of our lives, before we come to faith, we hear from God, usually repeatedly. I didn't come to faith until I was in my early 40s (I'm 57 now) and I recall many people before that time talking to me about their faith in Jesus. I rejected that message over and over again, until an extremely unlikely set of events occured that I could no longer ignore. God talks to unbelievers all the time and He makes it possible for them to listen and understand. The responsibility they (and we) have is to decide to take the message seriously and respond.

Why are you so evasive when I ask legitimate questions?

I am not. This is the answer Christ gave when someone posed a similar question.

It points out two thing though you have ears you do not listen though that you have eyes you do not see.

Mt 13:

10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:
“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a] 16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

If you want to see and hear then go to God and ask Him to heal your callous heart.

Let's say a Christian and an Atheist are together and God speaks to them. Would both the Christian and Atheist hear God?

Now let's say before God began speaking to both of them, the Christian and Atheist set up a recording device and placed it in the record mode. God then speaks to them. The recording is then played back to a wide audience mixed with Christians and Atheists. Would only the Christians in the audience hear the sound of God on the tape? Or would both the Christians and Atheists hear the sound of God on the tape?

What if the tape were forensically analyzed and then printed out in the form of volume/frequency vs. time. Would the volume spikes be visible only to Christians but not to Atheists? Or would they be visible to all?

The Atheist has the same avenues as the rest of us do. They have the Bible, God sends people to speak His word and the Bible says that God's laws are written in our hearts and we do not need a teacher to know they are there.

God will knock on the door of the heart just so many times and then He will turn a person over to his reprobate mind. Not God's fault - the person has hardened his heart.

God is obvious .. it is man, whether they say they believe or not, that chooses to believe.. and I have found that just because they say they do or do not believe doesn't dictate whether they actually listen and hear God or not.

This experiment of yours is taking place right now in life as we're all living it.

God is everywhere present, filling all things - there is no place where God is not. Without God there sustaining our very existence, we'd all be nothing. I see this quite clearly, but an atheist does not. Why is that? It's not because God isn't there - because if He wasn't there, there would be nothing.

This question reminds me of what happened when Jesus, just baptized came up out of the water. God spoke audibly from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well-pleased.". Some heard it and understood. Some of those thought it was an angel speaking. Some just thought they heard thunder. I am inclined to think that what made the difference was what the hearer's heart was seeking....

Describe the difference between God sending a person to speak his word and God speaking directly to someone? Give me an example or illustration.

If God sends a person to speak his word to both an Atheist and a Christian, will the Atheist hear precisely the same thing as the Christian?

How can a person know if God has knocked on the door of their heart?
