U're partly right. Salvation is a free gift to us. However, take the case of a christian who willfully disobeys God again and again by doing wrong things where he could have the chance to do good. The question is then , "Would he be saved?"

Now, if a christian does good, he would then be saved because salvation is a free gift AND he was willing to have a working faith in his life by doing good works.

Faith and Works go hand in hand. Though faith is regarded as a fundamental which we all agree, but without works, it's as good as dead. As i have mentioned, a converted christian has no problem with exhibiting works through faith and he would thus enter heaven with the greeting "Well done, good and faithful servant"

There are verses in James that refrenence to "Faith being dead without works" (2:26). At first sight one (and many) conclude that salvation is a result of works and faith. But, What about though verses like Romans 10:13, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 5:1, etc that say that you simply must believe and you will be saved? Don't get me wrong, works are very important, and if one does not have works, I have to wonder if they are truly saved, but the actual Salvation is by grace of Jesus through faith. It is true in a sense that we have to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." but also remember that "it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." (Phil 2:12-13) Salvation is by faith and Christ, the author and finisher of our faith, but works come as a result of genuine faith, and it is the Holy Spirit who empowers us to do good, but we can limit His ministry by not submitting.

"Faith and Works go hand in hand." No,  there you are wrong, before Salvation our works mean nothing.
Works come after Salvation and then they matter to God but not for salvation.

I'm afraid u misunderstood me..i meant that salvation comes first since it's free for all, then works...what i mean by hand in hand is, without works, faith is dead and salvation is lost. So it is essential to have the full package of faith and works. I fully agree with what Athlon4all said....

Athlon4all : will replly u soon yeah?hehe

In our Galatians study Paul speaks of the savior of all nations through Abrahams seed. 430 yrs later God gave Moses the commandments to show us how much we sin, not so we conducts works of the commandments. It's to show us that we will never be perfect, Christ like.

God made a promise to Abraham and fulfilled that promise through the sacrifice of Christ - your saviour. Being saved is believing that Christ is your saviour - that's it.

Martin Luther crawled up the steps in Rome that Christ bleed on and during his crawl he heard Gods voice, "ML, salvation is in faith, not from works" - or something like that. After that, he stood up and walk the steps.
