How do you vote?

When you vote for a candidate, what do you look for? Do you take into consideration their economic proposals? Are you more concerned with their stance on abortion? Capital punishment? Affirmative Action? Tax cuts?

What is the most important consideration for you, and can you be convinced to vote for a candidate who doesn't support your ideas on this issue?

I'll admit right now, I vote purely on a candidates stand on abortion. If they're pro-death, they will not get my vote, no matter what. This automatically excludes almost every Democrat who has run for political office in the past decade (in which I've been able to vote).

Count me in with the pro-life voters. It would be nice if we could get this issue behind us, so that I could narrow it down some more. But until this abomination ends, my vote will go towards a pro-life candidate ONLY!

But what is to stop the one you voted for from betraying you? Just because they say that is their stance, they can and do change things once they are elected. This happens all the time. I guess even though it is not the Christian thing to do for me to remain quiet about voting, I can't do it because I fear being a part of putting the wrong guy in office.

It isn't unChristian of you not to vote. I see nothing in the Cathecism or Bible which suggests it wrong not to vote. After all, how old is democracy?

The way to speak up isn't voting, but rather activism.

that is my method of choosing a candidate as well.

I wonder what I will say when my kids look book at thsi barbaric period in American history and ask, "What did you do to help stop abortion, Dad?" I keep vowing to volunteer with a pro-life organization.

No, because today candidates are all over the place on this issue.

I am pro death penalty, but only if we have infallible means of determining guilt, which we don't.
So I guess I'm anti death penalty...

No, because it does not bind our conscious. If the only way to protect society is to put them to death, then I agree with it. Charles Manson should be the one to go, he is still a danger IMO, to our world.

I have not, can not and will not ever vote for someone who advocates or supports abortion. In the 14 years I have been eligible to vote, I haven't voted for a Demoncrat. I was at the Fire Station working out the other day and was approached by a firefighter whom I've known for years. He asked me to consider going to a police/fire retirement meeting that is held once a month in the state captial (Little Rock). He's upset that the retirement might be changing management and that we needed to work to elect new representatives and/or governor. I told him I was happy with our current governor, a Republican and a Christian. He grumbled something and I said I couldn't vote for a democrat because of the party's support for abortion. He told me there was more important things (ie, our retirement) that abortion.

I told him to me, there was not. And if it meant having a worse retirement system, then so be it. Well, it got into a semi-heated argument about me being blind to the real issues, blah blah blah. He then went onto ask if I voted for Bush and I said yes. He told me Bush was pro-choice. Quoting Kim Possible, I said, "Whatever." And he went into his 'facts.' I said if that were indeed true, then I would write in the Pope for president in the election. He sneered and talked about my priorities being mixed up. Praise God for my mixed up priorities.

What this country needs, and I'm dead serious about this, is a Catholic Political Party.
