• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

How do you think Christ relates to us?

I think of this in reference to the two primary commandments of the NT: love the Lord with all of your heart mind and soul, love your neighbor as yourself.

Our condition trips that up a lot. We may greatly edify others, even if we can't always neurologically/chemically feel it and even more often can't physically show it in a way that other people can understand.

So what I wonder - what is Christ's plan for us? How would he utilize our condition in fighting evil or spreading love? How would the Lord utilize one of us who truly wants to serve him?

I'm sure you've all pondered it, I'd love to find some resources on the topic but it seems like its rarely broached. IMHO I'm certain he has a use for all believers, but with autism quite often 'finding our path' in service can be an incredibly complicated matter just by the shape and nature of our general limits.

For every spokesman of every fundraiser, christian and otherwise, there are many people behind the scenes making the whole project successful.

People have different talents, different gifts. A tonedeaf person may not beable to lead a curch, musically, but that doesn't inhibit him from worshiping. We all have to use our strengths, and work on our weaknesses.

If I read your post correctly, you don't have a problem loveing, but showing your love. For social reasons, acceptiblilty in your environment, you will probably always be working on things, but for God, He gets it.

Do what you do and do it well. Do it not only for you, but for God's glory.

The danger seems to be that with enough rebuffing it almost seems to fry your emotions into an extremely left-brained utilitarian state. Its not that my emotions are lacking in other areas, but trying to reestablish love as a feeling for others after enough years of incurring PTSD and repetitive damage makes it challenging to be there on a gut level or be responsive to others in a way that they instinctively find authentic.

I'd agree though, I'm sure the Lord does understand. The trick I suppose is giving things till this fall or winter, where I'm more certain that I'm out of seeker status, and find a place where I can get socially vested. Currently at my church its a benefit that I can just show up, participate, and not have anyone ask questions - that's good for the time being as I make certain of my own permanence.
