How do you teach?

Cliff, I think teaching not as easy as you think it is. Even if a man is gifted to teach the word of God still has to be careful of what he teaches and how he teaches it.

Not being critical of your packaged lesson plan comment. But. that is how I got started. I am very thankful of the times that I spent studying those packaged lesson plans. They are very useful even to this day. Sometimes God will speak to us about something in a packaged lesson plan. I happen to be a bible teacher who writes those packaged lesson plans.

However today, I can teach the word of God straight from those pages without any outside resources, but still at times do rely on them.

To test the spirits one must use the standard of rule (measuring rod / ruler) i.e. the word of God the Bible.

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 2:15
15 Be diligent {KJV says "study"} to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Acts 17:11
11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

1 Thessalonians 5:21
21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.

It's God's universe, God's eternity. God runs the show. Man does not. The devil does not. You do not. I do not. Only God. This sounds so obvious as to be absurd, but it would surprise most how much we all struggle with this simple point. Jesus taught (among other things) to submit to God the way he did... and he was the very Creator of all things created.

There is something embedded in the heart of the fallen intelligent being that wants to run the show or portions thereof. So foolish.

Study the Bible and be amazed!

I'm a college teacher as well as open cell leader for kids, teens, and adults.

Depending on the age bracket and the general characteristic of the crowd, you need to adjust your methods.

For kids, I incorporate fun activities and stories.

For teens, I share my own stories or other people stories in real life relating to the topic.

For adults, a little bit formal but I mix it up with humour.

For me the best way to learn is to have fun while learning, even painful rebukes will be a accepted if it is followed by a good laugh.

Early in my pastoral ministry (some 30 yrs. ago) I became convinced that preaching/teaching through books of the Bible verse-by-verse was the best way to mature a church in the Word. I still use that approach with the Adult Sunday School class it's my privilege to teach every Sunday.

I teach nursing at the university level and have found that generating interest or following the interests of the students is really important. That means I need to be flexible and be willing to throw out my "lesson plan" for the day and that I must know my material well. I've found this applies to spiritual teaching as well.

Teach with your life. Be an example. Now, if you are thinking verbally, then I hope that you have the gift of teaching but still you can teach anyway and sometimes, God gives you a message to tell someone. And, don't knock till you try it!

As a called prophetic teacher I do not teach the way most traditional teachers, pastors, and priest teach. I teach the Bible in an interactive forum with me being a facilator and only try to keep the discussions within context and discourage any doctrinal teaching from particular churches. The more I can get all to participate the better. They learn from each other and the revelations that God gives to them.
I tell them that my premise is God will give all true seekers some truth but He will not give any no matter how far they are in their spiritual journey the total truth.
