  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What method and what tools do you use when you do your personal study?

I use the inductive method, and have taught it. It is quite effective at getting people to actually look at Scripture instead of just listening to someone lecture. However, I also bring in as many applicable Scriptures as possible.

Tools:
Strongs concordance
Complete word study dictionary
eSword with multiple translations downloaded (KJV, NASB, YLT, ESV, ASV, Darby...I think a couple more LOL )

Hardcopy Bibles:
NIV archeological study Bible
NKJV Blackaby study Bible
NISB
NASB Thompson chain
NKJV Key Word study Bible

Hi Jay!

I use prayer before sitting down to read. Then I read for several chapters. Sometimes checking other translations. Then usually a word has intrigued me so I go to e-Sword to check out a parallel with my favorite translations and references to Strong's.

e-Sword has been a real blessing in my life, but if I'm not careful I can spend all day researching what OTHER people think instead of what the Holy Spirit has to teach me! :D

 Morning, Sis. I hope your holidays are going well. Merry CHRISTmas!!!!

You bring up a good issue to be aware of. We can get wrapped up in what other people say and write and place them in more imortant places than God's Truth. We are warned against following false teachers a lot in the NT.

God bless
Jay

Not sure what you get all included on eSword, but also really good to have:

Nave's Topical Bible
Interlinear Hebrew-English OT
Interlinear Greek-English NT (two, actually - one Nestle, one Received)

"Hard Sayings of the Bible" and "When Critics Ask" are great commentaries on passages that many people have trouble understanding.

i use a classical yearly torah reading schedule coupled to a pardes system.

for bibles, i use ISA (interlinear scripture analyser), e-sword (cause it supports the bibles i use most) and have a copy of the NIV (yuck), complete jewish bible to hand most of the time.

(i keep toying with the idea of buying a artscroll tanakh) and have just begun to learn hebrew.

I got a Stone's Tanakh from ArtScroll last year, mainly for the footnotes and guess what? There are hardly any footnotes. It's still a beautiful book though!

OK, What's Nestle and Received? I'm so sadly ignorant about these. I did get one of the reprint interlinears and it has been a great help!

They are slightly different Greek versions. Nestle's is the base of versions like the NIV or NASB, and the Received Text is the basis of versions like the KJV. Do a Google search and you can find a lot more detailed descriptions.
