How do you read?

So how do you read? Do you scan over it for the gist of a post, or whatever you might be reading or do you read the post fully to make sure you understand the concept of what's being said?

But to keep it on topic...I do have a tendency to skim read rather than look at a post in context. To me it's like skim reading a book - you get the basic gist in less time, but it takes some time to master.

I'm a very slow, methodical reader - especially in a debate situation. It does vary from poster to poster, but generally, I lower my gaze and really take it in.

It's rare I'll skim read anything to be honest.

I'm very much a "selective reader". That means if I don't like you it's very doubtful I'm reading your long and drawn-out posts. Yeah... That being a respecter of persons is probably something I need to work on.

I get that though, I'm a selective reader to those I don't really enjoy.

I usually read the whole thing to get context. If I'm still confused, I ask for clarifications.

Now I do admit, if it's a mile long post, I'm going to skim it.

I have a pretty bad attention span.. so I mostly skim over things. If I really read at all.. although over time.. I think you can pick up the gist of what someone is saying without having to pay attention too much.

My mind is pretty scatterbrained too. Although strangely I do tend to score high on reading comprehension during school tests and whatnot despite my language disability.

Depends on the subject matter! I study English, so I read my core texts in detail. Sometimes when I’m reading things online or looking for specific research points, I skim, then read important parts in more detail.

Love them. Love polls. Some people don't like them, a lot of people do like them. They come up to me, they say "why can't we have more polls?" So I think we could have more polls. We could have a great, big, amazing poll to ask the people - "do you want more polls?" Because I think they do, I think they really do, and I think if you ask them - I ask them, nobody else asks them - I think they'd tell you, "we want more polls".

To answer your question - I try to comprehend what I'm reading, and some things require more or less effort to achieve that.

I usually overthink when replying to a message. I found that it's much easier and effective to just to skim read and get the basic idea of it. Unless it's a long, in-depth post that takes time and careful thought to reply to.

From the title I thought you meant books.
In general I skip, skim, and read throughly. It really depends. If I decide to respond to a post I read it throughly though to get context.

I'm a diehard skimmer. I never read a post!

Noted exceptions for comedy. There was a guy on another site whose posts were hilarious. He was like Chris Rock minus the profanity. He'd have us roaring. Extremely funny. I'll read that from start to finish.
