How do you read your Bible?

The following would make for an interesting thread starter:

"LifeWay Research surveyed more than 2,900 Protestant churchgoers and found that while 90 percent "desire to please and honor Jesus in all I do," only 19 percent personally read the Bible every day." - Christianity Today feed

I can't say I read the Bible every day, though I do often, almost daily read different passages, and studying different subjects etc. Personally, I do like to do Word (subject) studies, or short phrases. I need to start reading the Bible every day, one of the difficulties for me though, is I have a tendency to glean as much as I can as I read, so simple Bible reading becomes a huge study.

AW, thanks for posting that study but I'm not shocked or surprised.

"There is a widespread desire among churchgoers to please Jesus, but much less interested in daily wrestling with what pleases Jesus. Instead of Christ being preeminent in the lives of every churchgoer, He is often only the preamble to lives lived apart from biblical truth."

I got away from reading daily for awhile. BUT...I had a good excuse. I'm a religion major and had to tackle whole books in 8 weeks or less. I got a little overloaded to where I couldn't read for personal study or devotion w/o getting mixed up with my classes.
Now I'm trying to get back into the habit of 30 minutes a day. It's hard but I succeed more days than not.

I recently started reading/listening systematically from my phone and iPad. I have an app with McCheyne's reading plan loaded on it. The notifications remind me when I've forgotten. It's always handy and is the the best tool I've used so far because I'm sticking to it.

I've been reading through the New Testament in the ESV, reading about a chapter each morning. I just started I John this morning. The ESV study notes are generally helpful, but I wish they included a wider range of theological traditions other than Reformed, such Lutheran and Wesleyan.

I try to read mine every morning before I start my day. I will read a few chapters or until I feel as though I read enough and that it is sufficient. That's normally 3-5 chapters in the morning.

Then I go to read it when I get home. That's not as long as in the morning where I would probably read over half of what I read in the morning. :p

I would love to get in the habit of reading in the morning...I wouldn't have a problem with getting up earlier, it's the being awake enough to remember what I've read! However, I usually have a bible CD going as I go to sleep. I find it extremely soothing and it makes it easier to fall asleep for some reason!

The Bible CD thing is a great idea! I'm stealing :O

Christian Book Distributors has great prices on bible cds. I have the full set of the NASB on 58 cds. I listen to a different one every night (in order). I also have them loaded onto my ipod. We ordered them for good listening on a cross country trip.

Do you read the Bible as a devotional or study it systematically? Do you read massive amounts at one sitting or a few chapters at a time? Do you follow a reading scheme? Do you read daily, more then once a day?

sytematically. One book gets studied everyday for the month, then I go to another book.
