How do you pray?

When praying, how do you like to address God? Jesus, Father, just plain old God? I personally just like to start it off with Jesus but I'm interested in other people's opinions. So, what do you do?

I pray to God, but in Jesus name. Jesus is the mediator between God and us. I think it really doesn't matter. It's all incense in the bowl.

I usually call Jesus many things from Lord to mate!

I pray to God through the intercesion of the saints, through the mediation of christ and more often to Christ and the holy spirit.

I often pray to my Father. I could sit here and give a theological dissertation of how it all works, but when it comes right down to it, "Father" is the word I use most often and the picture I have in mind.

It depends on where I am coming from when I pray. I don't know how much sense that makes. I use Father, God, Lord, and Savior but pray through His son Jesus.

One of the privileges we have being in Christ is our adult sonship status. We have access to God any moment and at any time. We have full and complete access. Each member of the Godhead are not jealous as to who you pray to, but as you mature in the faith and understand your sonship status, the privledge of the relationship you have with the Father, we pray to our father, just as Christ did. In fact, when God looks at us, he sees Christ and his righteousness.

I pray dear Lord, or dear Father. I don't think it matters really. Jesus couldn't have prayed to Himself when He gave us the Lord's prayer.

I heard a pastor once disallow his (3year old children) to pray to Jesus, because of the Lord's prayer.

I thought it was pretty awful. But that's just my take.

I know the Lord's Prayer but I was just wondering what different people call God. Father, Jesus, et. It's not that I don't know how to pray, I pray extremely often, I was just asking what other people call God when they pray; just out of curiosity.

Though I mostly commonly refer to Him - God, as Heavenly Father before (and when) I begin to pray.

I think usually when praying something other than Hail Mary or the Lord's Prayer, I say, "Lord Jesus."

I always begin and end prayers addressing the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit which reflects Eastern Orthodox practice.
Kemmer rightly points out that the Lord's prayer does indeed provide a wonderful model. In praying, it would be most difficult to do something "wrong", though in my experience in certain charasmatic circles in the 80's I found certain things too familiar for my own personal tastes.

Most of the time I just talk to my "Father". I talk to him as I would an Earthly father. I've even gotten mad at Him. And when I'm done venting He just lovingly carries on with His program for my life. Talking about feeling small!

You know, there's been a big controversy about praying "in Jesus name" in some (especially public) places. We have only ourselves to blame for this. We have never been told to tack the phrase "...in Jesus name..." on the end of our prayers. When Jesus said "...whatever you ask for in My Name..." what He meant was "...in My Authority." He was giving us the (His) authority to approach the Father. Take a look at Jesus response to the Disciple's request "Lord teach us how to pray" commonly called "the Lord's Prayer". There is no "in Jesus Name" tacked on the end of it. I believe most Christians misunderstand Jesus statement and if we'd stop insisting on applying that misunderstanding we'd probably be able to do a lot more public praying.
