Other than meds, how do you manage your bipolar episodes?
The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Keep the faith
Surround myself with positive people, not negative/destructive people. (Facebook counts!)
Try to get regular sleep.
Try to eat healthy. Avoid caffeine and alcohol. (Seriously, I do not need false ups and downs when my normal is so unstable)
Engage in activity which I enjoy and inspires me (art, crafts)
Actually, that last one is the hardest to do - it is so easy to be so busy or so tired that fun is pushed aside. Fun is necessary.
Other than meds, how do you manage your bipolar episodes?
A lot of people that I know don't know I have bipolar disorder. I try to hide it from them. I don't want them thinking I'm a plague or something. Only a couple of close friends know I have it and a few immediate family. I just don't want people thinking I'm crazy or something. I'm not crazy, I have an illness that is not my fault, but I'm afraid some people won't understand. My mom, husband and my 3 close friends that know are very supportive. I pray, try to stay away from drama and try to stay away from things that I feel may trigger an episode. I guess I am doing all of the right things to try to help myself until I can get my meds. I just want to get on my meds and get back to work. I really miss working as a beautician but at this time it's just not possible, I am unreliable, episodes are triggered easily, and I just can't function right.
It sounds like you have some good support! You don't have to share your bipolar status if you don't want to. That's personal and to your own discrection.
Sometimes because of bipolar we have losses but it doesn't mean that God can't restore. Right now you may not be able to work but that could just be for a season. Don't be hard on yourself. Just take the time to love on you, take care of yourself, and spend time with the Lord. Remember you can tell Him anything and He's always with you.![]()

No, but I will tell you this there are certain types of oils in those capsules. Some are better than others and the oil does change during the fishing seasons.
I'm actually taking right now is Nature Made 1,200 mg. It has 360 mg Omega-3 in it and that's what I'm looking for.
Their daily dosage is two capsules so that's 720 mg of Omega-3 and for me that's not enough. So I go with 3 caps a day.
You can also take flax seed oil, but it is an inflammatory and if you have problems with arthritis or acidosis in your joints it could cause problems.
You are going to have to find out
1. how much you need to maintain.
2. how much you can tolerate.
Some people have a hard time with burping fish oil if they take large doses. I never have, but I generally eat with it.
I also tried fish oil it helped me heaps with my aggression but didn't stop a other full blown psychosis. It took 6000 milligram a day. Not being on any other medication had me loose a lot of weight as well at the time 20 kilos all in all. (but I put on another 15 kilos when I was put on medication again.)
