I got the BEST news today you guys. I qualified for the greatest scholarship EVAH and they pay for everything required by my college. That includes insurance! I won't have to pay a dime.

I'm so happy and so relieved right now.

Amazing how things work out. And you were worried!

Congratulations!!!!

With Medicare for everybody here in Canada, we do not need to concern myself about things like this.

I don't want to rehash the Obama thread or anything, but I did want to add a little something to what I was saying about national healthcare.

I found out earlier this week that I have to have medical insurance to be in the Nursing program at my college. This a new requirement for Nursing students THIS YEAR ironically enough (we also have to get a drug screening every 60 days at $27 a pop, which is new as well).

I don't have health insurance and haven't had it in YEARS (I believe I said 8 years in another thread, but I realized that wasn't true. I did have insurance when I had my youngest child 5 years ago).

I checked several student-exclusive insurance policies, since short-term polices are usually cheaper, but they're still off-the-charts (at least to me), and even then it appears it's like not having health insurance at all.

For instance, one of the policies has a $100 deductible above the monthly premium for EACH illness (no prescription coverage). My doctor only charges me $79 for an office visit.

The other policies had like a $5,000 deductible with a $25,000 stop loss. If I needed surgery, I'm in trouble.

I'm applying for scholarships to help cover the expense of insurance, but those are considered income and could affect my other financial aid for college.

Isn't it ironic that the ONE thing that could keep me from being a healthcare provider is health insurance? :(

Hi Lainie,

You and yours have been in my prayers for a long time. I agree that this is indeed an answer to prayer.

May God continue to put His loving arms around you, His Holy Angels protect you, and the Holy Spirit guide and comfort you as we travel salvation's highway to our heavenly home.

Your friend and brother in Christ,
Doc

Daryl, I didn't know you lived in Canada! For some reason I thought you lived in...well...I don't really even know where I thought you lived, but it wasn't Canada. LOL!

The insurance there is outstanding, is it not? Tell Honor that! There's no millionaire doctors running around, no huge lines, and people can get treatment when they need it. Beautiful.

Even though I will have insurance from here on out, you watch, I'm going to continue fighting for national healthcare here.

Thanks again Sentipente.

Doc, you are so sweet! I was very concerned for a while, and I don't know why. I don't know how many times I have to see God working in my life before it finally sinks in!

I hadn't even thought to ask Him about a place to live (we were living with my folks at the time), and one day I sent up a prayer to Him that it would be better for everybody if my family got a place of our own. Within just a couple of days, that door opened.

The fuel pump on my car is going out and I have to turn off the A/C going up a hill and then FLOOR it (such a waste of gas) which absolutely humiliates my teenager, because even then we're creeping along and we've been honked at before. It groans (loudly) if it gets below a half a tank, and it has started almost dying when I turn right. LOL

Last night is the first time I thought to pray about it. I really need something reliable for school that won't leave me stranded, so we'll see!

This scholarship definitely put my mind at ease about the next two years. I can't even begin to tell you what a wonderful opportunity it is. They'll help with gas too, which isn't that big of a deal for ME, but it certainly could be for others. I live very close to the college.

I'm not a big fan of gubberment, but I am thankful that there are programs out there to help people like me, and I have every intention of paying it forward when I get out of school.
