How do you know when God's warning you against something?

Do you believe that God or the Holy Spirit warns you NOT to do something? Here's my situtation.

We planned to go with two couple friends to the beach this weekend. The guys would be out fishing. The girls hanging out at the condo.

One of the guys has a boat, and they would be going out without a guide for the first time. On the very day these plans were made, I had a knot in my gut.

A week ago, I put a bad tank of gas in my brand new car. $750 bill. I mention to my husband that we might should not go on the trip because this was such a huge expense that we werent expecting and now cant really afford the trip. He said we should go anyway.

Today, as Im getting ready to leave for a hair appointment in my husband's truck as my car is getting detailed for the trip, he truck is dead. Won't even turn over.

When I was outside with the guys from the repair shop (they were picking up the truck) I missed a called from the pet sitter. Her voicemail said that she was without a vehicle as her's died last night and was in the shop. So, she cannot pet sit for us this weekend.

Im just feeling like the writing is on the wall...we shouldnt go. DH cant get past his excitment to think rationally. He is a grown man, and I cant STOP him from going, but Im not going. Its too clear for me.

I will be worried sick about him the whole time. :(

What do you think?

Dearly Beloved of our Lord's Missmandiemoo,

Believe you'll agree all questions pertaining to the Spiritual must be answered via the Scriptures? Please allow me to show you Scriptural proof to your question:-

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Believe you'll agree that His Holy Spirit will teach you literally ALL things right but how? Then you might like to contrast with the following:-

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Now, if you've read all the 4 Gospel of Christ then you'll know that Christ isn't Troubled/Unfrazed with anything or any Circumstances/ Situation for HE is always at REST & Unshakable Peace right? He didn't awake & continue sleeping when the storm arose (Mark 4:37-38) & only arise at the freighten cries of His disciples. Christ 1st Rebuke the Strom for which after it was a 'GREAT Calm (Mark 4:39) from a Great Windstorm' then Christ turn to Rebuke the STORMS in the hearts of His disciples in Mark 4:40 ;)

So if you'll lead by His Spirit, you should have Unshakable Peace & not Worries or Scratchiness from within but there's a main Clause, you must Seek Christ Himself to Lead & Show you :)

I do believe that God will tell us when not to do something. I believe this is the job of the Holy Spirit. I'm glad you have chosen not to go on this trip and will pray for your Husband's physical and spiritual safety.

Sometimes listening to your gut is good especially if you've had times in the past were it's helped you. I've had premonitions before were things have happened to me but, then it might happen to someone else though I haven't had them in a Long time. Some are I beleive sent by divine intervention and others come from inside us. I'm sure your husband will be fine in the end even if he doesn't have the best trip. Maybe he should rent a car though...

You should always listen to your gut (not your emotions, two separate things, but I get the feeling you know the difference). If you feel uneasy about going, by all means, don't go! If you're worried about your husband, just tell him how you feel, and if he still goes, pray for him the whole time. God is bigger than anything and can keep him safe.
