How do you know if dishonesty is ok?

In Joshua 2 the prostitute Rahab hid Israelite spies and lied about it. She was rewarded and even became an ancestor of Jesus. A similar thing happened in World War 2 where some people were hiding Jews and lied about it to the authorities...

Anyway I was wondering how you'd decide if dishonesty is ok under certain circumstances...? What if it wasn't a matter of life or death but was about struggling finances?

Dishonesty is never Ok .... but sometimes God will turn the table on our "follies" and use them for good.

Sin and evil are painful. But the Lord will use all of it for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

God’s wisdom in the work of redemption includes even working the sin and backsliding of believers together for their good.

I really didn't have to lie, I just said things like "I want to buy an ounce " and "I'll be back "
I just didn't tell them I was making cases on them.
If you look like a construction worker and show up with someone they know most dealers didn't ask a lot of questions

Or telling your kids a porky because its too complicated to explain. Or telling a lie to avoid someone being hurt because now wasn;t the right time to tell them. Or telling your friend dinner was beautiful when it was ok lol.

I think theres a greater moral principles always involved. Objective morality is not absolute morality. Its that there will be an objectively right moral action for each and every moral situation that any moral person would have come to that same conclusion taking everything into consideration.

But I think its easy to start rationalising many things as ok to lie or omit if not careful.
