  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Let’s hear about your methods of how you stay close to the Lord. Sometimes, I talk to an honest backslider and listen to their story of how they got seven worse spirits. Such a conversation is a real eye opener. We can see from another person’s experience that the devil wants to harm us really bad.

While I understand that every Christian has backslid in some way or another, I know that God puts a responsibility upon us to be faithful to Him.

Here are my thoughts on this topic: Backsliding is the worst thing you can do to yourself. When you get lured into the enemy’s camp, he’ll dispatch his most treacherous demons to destroy you. See, you’ve pledged allegiance to the Lord once and the Lord will always tug at your heart. You’ll never be the devil’s friend, because you know about Jesus. You’ve harmed many demons with prayer by sending angels out to chase the demons away. Do you really think that the demons won’t use the chance to get back at you while you’re lacking God’s protection?

To stay in God’s will I pray, seek God, keep good Christian friends, abstain from all evil, stay busy for the Lord, ask for wisdom.

How do you keep from backsliding?

In my opinion the only true way to keep from backsliding is to keep God in everything you do, stay burried in your bible every day or as much as possible and pray as much as you can about anything you can. You have to want to live for God before any of those things will do you anygood though

Keeping humble and focussed... we must remember not to indulge in pride and arrogance - that was Lucifer's fall. We must also remember that everything we do is for a reason and that is for the Glory of God. Even when Humans fail us and hurt us, even if it is our family, we must remember that God is Good.

God Bless, metal.

I PRAY and study the WORD OF GOD, keep looking up, fixing my eyes on Jesus the author & perfector of my faith!! And did I mention PRAY:prayer: ?? Our Heavenly Father is so great and merciful, when we cry out to Him, He REALLY does hear us, although we sometimes miss or don't understand His response to our cries:sigh:

MY DEAR SISTER IN CHRIST,

The way i use to keep from backsliding is to always keep foremost in my mind a picture of the worthless piece of trash i was before the Lord picked me up, tore asunder the bonds which tied me to Satan, and transformed me into a rough approximation of what a human being was created by God to be. i never EVER want to go back to the animal i was, and this fear keeps me focused on Jesus and hanging on with all my might to the Hem of His Garment.
Do i screw up a lot. You betcha! But 1 step back and 2 steps forward ain't too bad for a basketcase! GOD IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!

MAY ALL BE AS BLESSED AS I HAVE BEEN,

I think the easiest way the devil gets to us is by taking our focus off Jesus and others and makes us focus on ourselves so when I find myself slipping into that mode of thought, thenI know I am under attack and run to my Abba my Father.

Great Posts! Temptations come, and sometimes we need to stay away from people and places that may cause us to fall. We don't realize that sin has tremendous consequences. I have a rebellious son who turned 18. He is hanging around the wrong crowd and getting himself in trouble. My co-worker suggests he take a tour of the local prison. Afterwards, most people clean up their act, never wanting to go there. If we see hell and how are sin breaks the heart of God we most likely would start obeying the commands of the New Testament which by the way are hundreds.
Also, sometimes when I feel myself drifting away even when I'm not in sin just exposing myself to the written word cleansing my mind from the onslaught of worldly things.

MY DEAR BROTHER IN CHRIST,

YOUR LAST PARAGRAPH IS A VERY GOOD POINT!--to the effect that most of the time we don't just fall into sin--BAM! out of the blue. Most of the time, as you say, it is more a gradual process of "drifting away"--with sin at the end of the process.
Therefore, if, like you have been able to do, we can catch ourselves in this "drifting off" process early before the actual sinning begins, we can save ourselves a lot of heartache and pain. As you say, meditating over the Scriptures is a wonderful way of bringing us back to our Lord's feet--as is forcing ourselves into Prayer  even when the flesh is not particularly willing.
THANKS FOR YOUR POST!

IN CHRIST'S PRECIOUS LOVE,

ephraimanesti

There are some Christians that can't believe, or stand in faith, for more than 5 minutes at a time.

They want to believe God, but there mind is so full of worldly thinking, and fear, that worry can take them into backsliding, because if you can't trust a chair to hold your weight, you won't sit in it. But God isn't a chair.

You can sit in a rocking chair, and rock back and forth with worry. It is something to do, but you aren't getting anywhere.

I know the time that I backslid, I just couldn't believe in God's provisions or promises for me. This led to unbelief, and unbelief is a lack of Word problem.

That is why we need to attend a Church that feeds us properly. If you don't want to backslide you have to keep a balance.

If your hear way too much on God's wrath, and displeasure, you can start to believe that His perfect love is lacking for you, and that he is in heaven looking down on you with disapproval waiting to whack you with a big stick every time you blow it. This of course is untrue, because His Grace abouds to us so much.

Backsliding also happens when you see yourself as a worthless sinner, after you are Born-Again. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. When He died, He died for yours and my Righteousness. So as believers on the Blood of Jesus, God see's us as righteous, and perfect, because we are covered in the Blood of Jesus' Sacrifice, but we will blow it, and sin. I don't want to sin, but it is a fact of our life. Read 1 John 1:9.

Blessings. Rev. Duane.

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." 1 John 2:15.

When the love for God loses it's supremecy the soul drifts earthward instead of accending heavenward. Therefore, everything that divides our love for Him, or our delight in Him, must be avoided. Our will, wishes, plans, desires, and pleasures must all be in subjection. Whatever divides the affections, or takes away from the heart supreme love for God, must be cast out.

just wanted to state that I too have backsliden when I was younger. I have not read any of the posts,I am also interested in knowing myself as I have also gotten to this point in my walk with God. Some of us are stronger than others and yet something keeps others hanging from a thread!
