• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I would say the best thing to do is be supportive and pray for them. I wouldn't suggest always saying things like, you really need to eat, if you don't eat you are really going to hurt yourself and those around you. Even though a lot of this stuff is true, sometimes if you force these type of stuff in their face it makes thing worse or leads to other things as well. I know from experience, having people tell you that kind of stuff, it kinda makes you feel really bad, cause now it makes you feel like you have just failed at another thing. I know right now I feel like a total failure.
So the greatest way you can help, is just to be there for your friend, tell them that if they ever need to talk that you are there for them, then if they decide to trust you enough to talk to you, makes sure you let them talk, and explain how they feel. Sometimes people don't fully listen, they will cut in saying things like, that's ridiculous how can you think that way, or you have to be kidding you are like so skinny. Or whatever people say.
So pray, listen, and be there.
The greatest gift you can give your friend is love and support.

I definately agree with ark_angel, if you pressurise them then they are more likely to not feel like eating! or it will just deal with the symptoms of a friend. wait for them to decide they want help, then gradually start to talk about why they have eating problems, why they feel the way they do. Maybe even try to help them sort it out when the reasons are established and when they ask for help, they may not even come to you, but make sure they know that you are there to help if they need it, if they ever wanna chat!
God bless, pray lots!
